Unpopular opinions go here

I saw a thread with a subject that really interests me and I love to talk about. But then noticed that it's a plus thread and what's the point of discussing anything if you're not allowed to disagree? It's not even worth reading what others might have written.

The reasons for this may be a topic of discussion for the meta subforum rather than the unpopular opinion thread.

I admit that I'm trolling a bit. Cannonball is a good song, I'm very fond of it. But I'm not sure what makes a song quintessentially 90s either. (Maybe all the band wearing doc martins?) I'm actually quoting some clickbait from my google feed.

But hey, it's an unpopular opinion, and at least it isn't about the definition of "RPG."

Isn’t that that song by Miley Cyrus?

Some posters simply refuse to let others talk about certain topics without trying to shout everyone down. And it’s impossible to talk about fixing a problem with people who deny the problem exists. Sometimes you can’t have a productive conversation without that plus.

People are also often looking for relevant solutions or feedback. If I am curious about how to run a particular adventure in 5e, then I probably don't need people telling me that adventures are railroads or BadWrongFun and that sandbox games in Zweihänder are better.

I find a definition of "discussion" that automatically focuses on disagreeing with other posters, rather than, say, exploring a subject with collaborators a little sad.

I agree. The vast, vast, vast majority of threads here are not plus threads, and within the first four pages (and I'm being generous) of most threads we see that they end up being threadjacked into something else by people that are arguing with the premise or who wish to turn it into The Same Argument They Have In Every Thread(tm).

The reason that "+" threads were explicitly allowed by the mods is for those occasions when people are looking for collaborative discussion around a topic, or for those occasions when people want to discuss something without the topic being threadjacked by particular known issues.

Given the relative paucity of "+" threads, and the very large number of threads in which we can argue endlessly over everything, I don't think that the existence of "+" threads is an issue.
