D&D 5E Check Out Planescape's Table of Contents & More!

Brandes Stoddard has received a copy of Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse (which come out in two weeks!) and is posting loads of photos over on Blue Sky. You can check out his feed for the whole treasure trove--here's a look at the table of contents.

The old material is all available. I don't understand why you need a new version to be exactly the same.

As I've said before, I want new material about an existing campaign setting to be additive. That does not equal the same. The 3e Ravenloft material from Arthas was additive to the older material, as was the 3e Sovereign Press material to the older Dragonlance stuff. WotC used to let people do that.

In my case, despite having the old I'd like to buy into the new for the update to 5E mechanics, cleaning up and gathering information spread and fleshed out through a half-dozen books and insights to some of the areas that were ignored or glossed over the first time around. And new art is always a bonus as well.

The new version might not cover ALL the information the 2E version did, but if it's more concise and doesn't have to spend a dozen pages on spell and magic item alterations, I might be tempted if the lore isn't too far out of whack from the original.

There's no canon at all anymore. Just random stuff they think will sell in the moment, with no consistency or sense of history.

Just because they make changes doesn't mean they have no sense of history. It is just not your sense of history..

What does your reply have to with my dislike of the "Chant" speech used in what I quoted?

I didn't pick up from your response that it was the chant that you didn't like. I thought it was the large amount of influence of the neighboring planes.

That's why I might buy the monsters. It's the only part that seems worth it to me.

They have been changing history in all their settings (Ravenloft most terribly). I see no sense of history that doesn't revolve around $$$.

Those examples started with campaign settings that reintroduced the material to the new audience, including making some changes. That's the way these things are and always have been updated for new editions.

You have already acknowledged that there is in fact more information in the new set that the original set (in the form of the number of gate towns described). And it is demonstrable that the word count in the 5E set will be noticeably higher. But you have rejected these as not good enough. In that light it is hard to have sympathy for your complaint.

I understand and share your frustration with the publication schedule. Even if they follow up this set it won't be for years. It's like waiting for a new Elder Scrolls. But I think you should consider being happy they are doing Planescape at all -- which was never a given considering how poorly it sold originally-- or, failing that, just shrugging it off as not for you.

And if you want more PS, it's going to come from DMsGuild. That's just a fact.

Getting it on DMsGuild is what makes it worth it to me.

For the record, the high-priced, unnecessary format change is the main reason I'm not buying this. If it was a book that didn't cost $20 more than it did, I'd likely consider what they are adding worth it.
