It's better than how they looked in 3e, as I didn't really like the naked, malformed hairless things that they were then. And while it was Tony DiTerlizzi that originally drew what they looked like, they looked more like Klingons but in DiTerlizzi's style.

I guess here they're emphasizing the metal/alchemy part.
Yeah, they were just "slightly different humanoid race" in 2e, so I'm glad they went weird with them here. The Outer Planes are supposed to be weird!

Rilmani look VERY different, but I always felt the original designs were just... DiTerlizzi drawing regular Humans with pointy noses in armor. I actually thought the Aurumach would be the Parai due to the floating head, now I am kinda glad she isn't - hope we get the Parai in a later book.
I wonder if Razorvine Blights are a result of that Rogue Modron's experiment who tries to create Spellhaunts and instead managed to turn a patch of Razorvine intelligent?
I like the revamp of Incarnates. They were rather generic - especially in appearance - in 2E.
Maaaan love the Modrons. They are goofy yet fit perfectly. I am not surprised they redesigned the Septon, Hexton and Octon - it was weird how some of the higher level Hierarchs were less machine-like and more like humans with Leonardo's flying machine on their backs, or snapping turtles with tentacles. The Decaton and Nonaton bears the most resemblance to the 2E art. I am wondering if all of these are Large sized... maybe the Septon is Huge? Hope we get miniatures!

When I saw Rilmani, Archon, and Guardinals, it almost sold me. Then I realized they only included 3 of each, and I was unsold. I've just had as much as I'm interested in dealing with of the gradual rollout (often never completed) of creatures that were originally presented as full sets in 2e.

For those not as picky as me, at least there are also 3 demodands/gehreleths, and that is their full set.
As stated elsewhere on this thread, we know they're going to give us lots of new stat blocks in the '24 MM, and that they're going to bulk up on previously neglected types. As Celestials were the most neglected type in the '14 MM, that seems to indicate we'll see lots of new Celestial stat blocks in the upcoming book, so the Celestials skipped here would appear to have a good chance to show up there...

The selection of monsters seems solid/interesting, with some good throw backs.
The Gatetowns, the mention of Alignment based 'forces' in some of the descriptions.

Its going to take a look/reading, to see if the text betrays the correct tone, but so far from what we have seen, its hard to fault too much.
Exactly. And I am curious about the Gate-Towns too. And what named characters from the older books return? I mean we have seen fell and Shemeshka, and some Factols. I hope the book has details about A'kin too and many others, like Estavan, Rule-of-Three, Autochon the Bellringer, Kylie (especially given how the adventure features Shemeshka), Jemorille the Exile, Xideous, Zadara, etc...

Yep, love the modrons as well. I just wish we had a better view of the hexton! Hopefully, one will be illustrated more clearly in the adventure or the gazetteer...

I'm assuming all of them are Large, with that looming hexton being Huge.

I guess you use a Lich for an avatar because you are THAT old? ;)

I am excited that 5E did what both 3E and 4E did not do, bring back Planescape.
I mean maybe you are as old as to be incapable of liking anything new? I am no spring chicken either but I can still like new things if they tickle my fancy, and this book sure as Baator tickles it. ;)
I can if the price is right.

And yes, I am that old.

I can maybe see getting the full book. Just need to see if my wallet can take it. That thing is exPanSive...

I keep calling it a Planar Energy Exchange, but it's a Planar Energy Cooperative. Maybe they power Sigil? Or just harvest different types of Planar Energy from Sigil's collecive Planar
portals.

Btw anyone notice that the art with the Mechanus infused Dinosaurs was not ACTUALLY Automa? It's suggests this phenomena is not exclusive to Gatetowns.
