Toph is from Avatar the Last Airbender. Blind but uses earth elemental manipulations to essentially give herself tremorsense through her feet and is a kick but champion combatant.

Aka can't see the newsprint of J Johan Jefferson writing editorials against her, but in combat not really blind. AKA not really blind when it matters.

Probably mentioned in the thread already, but Van Richten’s guide to Ravenloft has as one of its « iconics », a character that is wheelchair bound.

I didn't read every single post in this thread, just the first couple pages then skimmed from there. Has any player that has a wheel chair chimed in yet?

I can walk, but personally if I lost my ability to stand and walk I would want to continue playing characters that can walk. I prefer playing characters that aren't like I am in real life. I'm curious if players in wheel chairs would enjoy playing a character that's also in a wheel chair, even when the option to not require one is presented.

I can walk, but personally if I lost my ability to stand and walk I would want to continue playing characters that can walk. I prefer playing characters that aren't like I am in real life. I'm curious if players in wheel chairs would enjoy playing a character that's also in a wheel chair, even when the option to not require one is presented.

Yes, someone in this thread does use a wheelchair. But my understanding is that it's less about "Hey, let's all use wheelchairs in our games" and more "Hey, we've finally got representation for people like me, and that's more important than if a person in a wheelchair can climb stairs or not."

It's not the same thing, but I play almost exclusively species that make Tolkien purists cry, but I'd be pretty not okay with the game declaring you can't play black people because mud and cliffs exist or the time period is one where we haven't been invented yet.

My brother, part of my gaming group through Junior and Senior High School, used a wheelchair his entire life. But nobody presented the option for having a character like himself, so the possibility of doing so never occurred to us. In effect, he never had the choice offered to him. How sad is that?

Nobody here can speak for everyone. Nobody here has to. In all likelihood, some will like to play characters like themselves, other won't. And that's okay. But the option ought to be clearly available.

On another note, are their players on here that can walk that are excited to play a character that has a fantasy wheel chair? That's assuming the minis are not just for players who need a wheel chair in real life.

??? Require characters to use wheelchairs? No, nobody is arguing that gamers with disabilities should be forced to play characters with disabilities. If that's what you are asking.

Some of us are happy that disabled gamers are getting some representation in the game. Some of us are more concerned with wheelchairs somehow breaking our immersion and less concerned with supporting inclusion for disabled gamers. (my bias might be showing here)

Some disabled gamers would prefer to play fully abled characters. Others LOVE the idea of being able to play a character with similar (or different) disabilities. Some fully abled gamers are interested in exploring a character with a disability. It's all good. But it helps to have representation in rules, art, and miniatures to enable this to happen easily.
