D&D General Requesting permission to have something cool

A master swordman subclass.
An expert marksman subclass.
A dagger virtuoso subclass
A spear specialist subclass.
An axe axe subclass
A hulking hurler subclass

The problem is that the rule set was designed to have open space so that other publishers can go into the open spaces purposely left open by Wizards....

But no one did go in that open space for Martials. Every major publisher who didn't rewrite the whole books is printing blatantly magical warriors and casters.
You can't get much more "major" in 5E 3PP publishers than Kobold and they have tons of martial options. It is fine to say that WotC has not stepped up to the plate on this one, but it is demonstrably false to say that "no one" has.

Sorry to hear that you haven't found what you're looking for, but personally I don't see a problem with using something that does re-write the books. When I get home I'll see if I can find some non-magical subclasses for you.

Yep! There's a long and semi-glorious history of 3PP martials!!!

I will be absolutely floored if it is not a slightly tweaked 5e, on the scale of 3e -> 3.5e.

There is no way WotC is going to say "You know what, i know we're currently printing money with 5e but what if we shook it up tremendously and took huge risks for an incredibly vocal yet fractional-fractional subsection of the community".
D&D is still growing, which is unprecedented in the history of the game. They aren't going to kill the golden goose.

The last playtest we had on the fighter had
  • 2 uses of second wind (you regain 1 on a short rest and you get more as you level) and at 5th level you can move up to half your speed without provoking an OA.
  • Weapon mastery (things like cleave, push, slow)
  • Action surge can be any action except the magic action
  • When you make an ability check you can use one of your second winds to reroll and get a 1d10 bonus.
  • Level 13 if you miss, advantage on the next attack vs that creature.
There are also some minor modifications to the subclasses. I wouldn't consider any of them major changes and there's no guarantee they will be in the 2024 edition. It's all just tweaks which are to be expected after a decade.

1. Ask yourself why that is.
2. Solve for it.
3. Go be the next Million Dollar Kickstarter.

I mean what is the worst that could happen? A setting to be a HOTDOG had 2K+ backers, and was funded with 120K British Pounds.

What constitutes an expert verb-er, in these cases?
