I don't believe in the no-win scenario
It was a summer action movie, released in the summer, which is not Christmas. Does anybody really think people were going out to watch a ‘Christmas movie’ in July?

I mean it has Christmas in it. It has an elevator in it, but it’s not an elevator movie. Or a helicopter movie. Or a cigarette movie. Or a movie about clouds. It’s a summer action movie.
That was so the VHS would be available in time for folks to watch at home around the yule log.

I mean. Something can be released as a summer action movie and also be a Christmas movie. There’s nothing necessarily contradictory in those terms.

By that logic any movie released at Christmas is a summer movie.
If the intent is that the video will be available for summer to watch at home during a holiday, sure. Many horror films are also released in June/July to be available for home video by October for Halloween. Though any film released at Christmas? No that doesnt make logical sense.

Ah so it’s all based on us magically on us the intent of the movie studio?

How did I get myself dragged into yet another Die Hard Xmas discussion? I should know better by now… it’s not like it’s going to be any different to the 5,000,000 previous identical discussions! :D

Yes, it is a Christmas movie. Is it a movie about Christmas? No.

It is a movie that my friends and I watch every Christmas after opening gifts, ergo: Christmas movie. Now I don't know what that says about my friends or myself, but there it is.
