D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

Found an interesting edge case where we can see some of the limitations of the model in understanding the prompts. The prompt in this case was: "a giant pink fairy armadillo being ridden by a gnome down a forest path, antique children's book illustration." Pink fairy armadillos are a real thing; this is what they look like:

But DALL-E reads "pink fairy" as adjectives modifying armadillo, giving images like these:

They're not bad, but they're not what I was going for.

Been buried at work trying to get the books out to our accountant here is a quick and dirty suggest prompt from my custom GPT art creator...

The bare bones prompt given... Create a mythical creature in a fantasy setting.

Here is the prompt used by my GPT to create this... Illustrate a mythical creature in a fantasy setting, emerging from an ancient, mist-covered forest. The creature is a majestic blend of a dragon and a phoenix, with shimmering scales that reflect the colors of the sunset and fiery wings that leave a trail of embers in the air. It stands tall amidst ancient ruins, with a backdrop of towering trees and a carpet of lush, green ferns. The scene is bathed in the golden light of dawn, casting long shadows and highlighting the creature's awe-inspiring presence.

Yeah, not my most creative work but still interesting all the same...

So as usual, the main thing I use this thing for is character portraits.

My wife and I want to do a Fantasy High game based on the world of Spyre from dimension20: Fantasy High, and I came up with a creepy goth elf chick using Hexblade Warlock and Mark of Shadow Elf. She is named Morrigan and carries a dark sword and sings like a banshee to cast her spells. IMG_2806.jpegIMG_2801.jpegIMG_2812.jpeg

My wife came up with an emo College of Tragedy Triton Bard with a keytar.

My tiny creepy murder goth came out great, but my wife’s emo fish girl is a bit harder to get right

I did not ask for a fish companion. I asked for “D&D triton“ or “Atlantean” and added “fins for ears”.

Still tho, they’re gonna start a band and name it “Atlantean Abyss”, first album “I Stared Into The Void But It Just Walked Away” with the debut single “I’m Sorry But The Night Yorb Ate Your Mom”.

Both characters accomplished with “Sandman comic book art style” and “Tony DiTerlizzi art style, with a couple “charcoal sketch art style” attempts.

Man, if I weren't so fundamentally against anyone using AI Art to create commercial product, I'd make a bestiary with all these critters.
I wonder if we’ll see a decline in art used in books. Everyone can just freely create whatever art they want in whatever style they want with a few words and a click. Why spend the extra money printing high-quality art when anyone can generate it free from their desktop?

Yeah, that's part of the reason that professional artists can be adamantly against "AI" art (that and how a lot of the training stole artists' work, of course). While I've very much enjoyed making images, I have mixed feelings on the whole issue.
