Knightfall
World of Kulan DM
The unicorn moves to the open doorway and touches the dying knight with his magical horn. Healing energy flows through the horn into the young man's chest. The man's eyes open and he gasps in a breath of air. He looks weak as a lion cub.The loremaster starts the spell of anti-magic to free the genie. He looks at the threatening cultists and feels relieved the caster didn't try to affect him. On the other hand, maybe his spell resistance would protect him.
He gets temporarily distracted by trying to identify the spell, faltering in his reading and then completely fumbles it when he sees the boy crumple down.
"We need the caster down!"
In Sylvan to the unicorn
"Keep healing the knight until he rushes away from you or someone else falls. Use your best judgement after that. Do not approach me."
"There is more wrong with you," the unicorn says to the man in Ticin. "What can I do?"
The knight shakes his head. He cannot understand what the unicorn is saying to him.
"He cannot hear you," Custodio says to the unicorn. "He's deaf. And, he cannot speak."
The magical beast looks down at the knight with concern and then at the Vanquisher cleric. "I think he is more than just wounded. He seems withered. Weak."
Akos cannot hear the conversation on the other side of the room. He's not even sure if the unicorn heard him over the sound of battle. The djinni, the altar, and Sir Tymbeck all block his line of sight. Yet, he sensed the knight's plight after the cleric unleashed his spell.
What's worse, his casting of the scroll goes awry. At first, it seems like the spell fizzles as the scroll is consumed. He gets a mild shock as it turns to dust. Then, the spell flashes into existence, but it isn't centered on him. Instead, the air above the bed next to him begins to shimmer and the spell activates near the bed's headboard. The pillow sitting on the bed is torn apart by the magic and there are soon feathers floating in the air.
The spell hits him and the magic circle. Akos feels his gut twist from the miscast magic, but the discomfort is only momentary. Everything within range of the antimagic field glows with faerie fire. The circle is bisected in half, and for a moment, the genie seems to hang in midair, dangling awkwardly, half free, half trapped.
Then, she falls to the floor within what is left of the circle. She shudders once and then doesn't move. Akos worries that his miscast spell might have killed her. But, then he hears her moan in pain.
