D&D (2024) New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover Features Venger (From the D&D Cartoons)

The cover of the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide has been unveiled.... in the Mirror, a mainstream newspaper in the UK.

The cover art features villains (as opposed to the heroes on the Player's Handbook cover revealed last week), with skeletons in the foreground, the classic villains Skylla and Warduke in the mid ground, and then Venger from the 1980s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon looming in the background, and right at the back lurks a dracolich.

The DMG will be released November 12th, 2024.

I've been showing the cartoon to my 5 year old son every Saturday morning. He will dig the cover.

It's not like DMGs ever have great covers and I like this one more than most.

They won't be. Once a brand and a corporation get to a certain size, protecting the brand and the business is more important than striking out in new and creative directions. (I'm sure there are college courses about when that point occurs.)

D&D would have to crater before WotC feels free to go cuckoo again.

I haven't seen Maverick, but by all accounts it is a superior movie to the original (not hard, in the case of Top Gun)?

Hey, Top Gun was awesome, and confirmed to many of us that we wanted to fly fast pointy jets! Maverick was even better, the in-cockpit stuff was amazing.

I like the art and plan on picking it up regardless of the cover art but it is a plus for this one. Side note, it’s blurry but is the MSRP showing 49.99? Nice if so!

Yeah, I suspect they are going with a "loss leader"-esque price for the first run to entice folks to pick 'em up. I suspect subsequent runs will be at the "normal" book price.

I like it well enough. But they are really leaning into the whole D&D cartoon though with Venger having such a prominent placement. Makes me wonder if there's a reboot in the works.
