D&D (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

Plan to adopt the new core rules?

I've heard people say this, just not sure where it came from or whom. I'm also not aware of any timing attached.

It will likely happen but not until next year when other products are finished.
The timing was "try by the end of the year(2023). 2025 isn't even remotely close to what a reasonable delay would be for "try by the end of 2023." 5 months into 2024 they already past what a reasonable delay for something that is quick and easy to do and was supposed to happen if possible by the end of 2023. They had time then. They have time now. They are choosing to delay it another year.

Considering what's going on this year, that's perhaps not a totally unreasonable thing.

Now, say, this time next year and still no movement? Then I totally back being pissed off.

They didn't make a firm commitment at the time, but they have provided continuous updates that it is in process, up to like last week. It is coming, but making new SRDs for older editions (since they didn't just promise 3E, just putting out 3E would be half-assing it) is something that requires labor from people currently finishing the DMG and MM, so it makes sense.

back then they said they would look into it, they did not promise anything. The closest to a promise was the recent statement that they would review them after the 2024 SRD
A lot of times people take comments on what someone would like to do as a promise and exaggerate to misunderstand the intent. Even if someone did "promise" something for 2023, that doesn't mean that they were lying it could just be they weren't aware of all the issues and there are other factors at play.

I have no idea what the issues could be and it may just be unnecessary bureaucratic overhead, or maybe someone just spoke out of line or it was misunderstood. Which is why I was curious about the actual comment/post that started all of this that nobody has provided.

Kyle Brink said it in his various apology video appearances. He did not provide a specific timelien, but seemed to feel that by end of year (2023) was feasible.

Honestly, they could have let it die easily enough, so the fact thar WotC still keeps brining it up in random contexts ia adequate proof to me that they still have something planned. But something bigger than "heres the 3.5 SRD, now we are done."

the initial ‘I’ll look into it’ comment was Kyle Brink during the OGL-apology tour.

Sometime later WotC posted a community update in which the review was first mentioned as in progress and later moved to upcoming, but without a date in either case

ENworld has it as in progress in the first post, the DDB was updated since

A few weeks ago they now said they would do so after the 2024 core releases

The promise was that they would try by the end of 2023, not that it would 100% be done. They had plenty of time to get it done, but didn't. It doesn't take long or much effort to release an already built SRD into CC.

@Parmandur I don't agree that releasing less than all of them at once would have been half assed. If they had come to us in say November and said, "Guys, we are behind with the 5.5e books so we just don't have time to build SRDs from scratch for 1e and 2e, but 3e already has one built so we're going to release that to you now and the others by X date," that would not only NOT have been half assed, but would have gone a long way towards showing us that they are really making an effort to do what they said and not just push it off until they can be bothered to get around to it.

They still need to foster good will. What they did by putting 5e into CC was just a band-aid that is helping to heal the OGL wound, but the pain is still there under the surface. They don't have much

They obviously have every intention of following through at this point, it would be silly to keep bringing it up otherwise. And yes, I do think the most obvious reason it hasn't happened yet is they plan something splashing than just dumping out the 3.5 SRD into CC. A first party CC version of OSRIC, but with Gygax (and Molldvay/Mentzer) original language? Very plausible, but not while the DMG is in layout and the MM is being edited.

eh, quite frankly I am surprised we get it at all, which seems to be reasonable to expect at this point.

I am glad we do, I don’t think the timing is all that important
