Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

on a walk I was thnking about Ep4 and the criticism about Mae's sudden turn.

And I find it believable to me IF she was in a double bind. And I think she was because she says twice that the task is "impossible". Now from what I understand from Zen Teacher Alan Watts, and what I have experienced, that kind of turn does happen. You are sweating over a problem. You rest. And boom. Out of nowhere, a solution appears.

This is what I saw Mae do, and it was acted very well.

I have an exmaple from gaming:

I am running the new marvel game. I have a player who created in his words "an untouchable tank". By the rules he did create one. And I was pissed off. I didn't know how to challenge him. It spurred me on to learn the rules of combat better. And I figured out a couple of ways I might be able to challenge his character, but they seemed mean. So I just kinda let it be. And then, a few days later it came to me "If he wants an untouchable character, I won't touch him." It worked, it was a challenge, by NOT targeting his character in combat he was challenged. He said so.

---

Also, I can't believe I am going to write this:

I notice that the whole of Star Wars stuff is interested in Twins.

And I forgot Luke and Leia were twins.

I think Mae's turn isn't so much she did it more the flick a light switch speed of it.

Espicially since the previous episode showed her trying to kill her sister so she's a villain vs victim.

That's the pacing thing again which has been apparent since episode 1. Or RoS even.

Tales of the Empire also had very rapid turn from darkside.

The scene at the Jedi temple at the beginning makes it clear several days downtime have passed - do we really need to see it in real time?! Mae has had plenty of time to think it over and realise she doesn’t need to avenge her sister if she isn’t dead. She just needed to find the right time to tell the person who is gaslighting her.

Oh and Mae definitely did not try to kill her sister in episode 3.

It happened in around 15 minutes of real time.

All 4 episodes are shorter than ANH. Luke turned Vader for example but it was closer to 6 or 7 hours of build up.
Game of Thrones Season 8 or RoS speed almost.

Live action Star Wars show that would be popular with the fanbase: two white males hitting each other with lightsabres for 10 hours.

That's incredibly insulting.
Yup. I am sure there are mysogynistic (or maybe androphile fans) that want nothing but this, but the best Star Wars in the last decades for me was Andor, which didn't even have light sabers and features both men and women as protagonists or antagonists. And before that, it was probably Rogue One. But maybe I am not really a Star Wars fan, but I know that some fans really liked that, too. So you might be quite wrong, yours isn't a guaranteed winning formula, and the problems might not always be so simply reduced to some black and white issues.

At the same time, I am not really into looking into any of these "controversy" stuff, most feels like click-bait made to enrage, whether it actually represents anyone's view or just represents the best way manipulate people emotionally to watch it, regardless of their own opinion would be guessing.

The episode really didn't feel like was much happening, except for the ending, of course.
Mae's re-awakening of force abilies or her relationship with Jecki, Sol or Yord really seem kinda... understated for such a short series. Does it really matter or amount to anything? The force thing for example - it's absolutely nothing we can really relate to, it's a lot more subtle than failing to move an object with your mind or waving a hand to make someone ignore you. "I sensed something" - so what, when you touched the creature, you sensed something? So what, when I touch some object or animal, I sense something to, texture, temperature, vibration or pulse! What makes this special, how was it to you before, what changed?

And of course, Sol promises some new information, but only later, of course. It feels all a bit formulaic, a convenient way to tease us with something but not really enough meat.
I guess the alleged Sith Master could be another survivor of Mae's family/temple, and maybe we'll see the Wookie in action in another flashback. But it felt a bit lame to not really deal with him further in this episode.

I found Abdor very slow paced to the point the first two episodes were boring. Acolyte was more fun (2 episodes vs 2).

It's also generally regarded as one of the best Star Wars products ever.

Acolyte if it keeps going the way it is it will be on par with Obi Wan. If it falls apart BoBF if it improves Ahsoka.

Short of delivering 4 episodes in a row that are absolute bangers.

So rewatching Ahsoka. First episode not including the end credits was 51 minutes.

Last Acolyte was 27 and the first one was shorter as well.

That's probably the pacing/rushed feel. I can't remember Andors length.

Might have to bump Acolyte debut to number 2.

Ahsoka was glacially slow. The whole predictable narrative could have been done in less than 2 hours. Andor was slow, but at least justified by the genre.

I'm used to 22 episodes of 1 hour. Ahdoka was fine lol. Andors slower paced than Ahsoka imho. I admit I liked Ahsoka more than the internet. 7.5 on IMDB I gave it an 8 iirc. Acolyte by episode 8, 7.5, 6, 7 ymmv of course.
