It is peculiar, IMO, because - as far as I can tell, it first appeared in SR2 and was only used for rangers. It was the early days of game design. Clarity wasn't important.
Giant was "an humaniod shaped being that wasnt a human, dwarf, or elf"

Agreed. We should have more magical research in our 5e. I assume that's the take-away here. The Wizard is an Arcane Scholar in a game where careful research in libraries and laboratories barely exist.
The Wizard isn't generally regarded as underpowered.
Now, now, everyone gets to decide for themselves how the 2024 ranger is a joke. The 2024 Ranger is is a joke because it is uninspired and bland not because it's class features aren't broken.
That algorithm idea has seemed more likely for years now.they need to go back to the drawing board assuming they still have one and are not just listening to an algorithm spit out stuff.
Undead? Humanoid?I wonder how many 1e Rangers actually ran into a giant during an adventure?Does anyone know what the most commonly encountered monster type in every edition of D&D was?
I’m not into wilderness exploration myself. I live in London, I’m defeated by hay fever.I would recommend the Level Up ranger, built for a game that does have an emphasis on wilderness exploration.
Also a valid choice.I’m not into wilderness exploration myself. I live in London, I’m defeated by hay fever.
Ignoring rangers as irrelevant is my preference.
That's an interesting idea, but the text they've used in the preview article doesn't seem to support it. Let's see if they talk about it in Monday's video. We haven’t seen the final version of the Hunter’s Mark spell. I’m holding hope that it has scaling like the damaging cantrips use. 5 ranger levels two dice, 11 ranger levels three dice. It also could help incentivize sticking with the class and minimize multiclass dips.
So that capstone changes all dice to d10s. That now feels much more of a capstone.
Then hunter’s mark eliminates using a bonus action to designate a new target when the current target drops to 0 hp. This would help with the traffic jam competing for bonus actions.
Maybe Monday’s video on Spells will lift the veil on the spell?
