D&D General Weekend Fun: What Fantasy Movie Does Your Ideal D&D Campaign Look Most Like?

DaD:HaT is really the only one of these that has a level of magic that actually feels like D&D, IMO. But, setting that aside, I voted for it, Princess Bride for vibes, and Jackson’s LotR for the adventure.

Nothing is going to feel like D&D outside of HAT, but that's not the point. I almost didn't include it for that very reason. Seems I should have gone with my gut.

Really, a lot of my group’s campaigns range between “everyone trying to be serious in game but we are a bunch of goobers and zany shenanigans ensue”, or “the campaign itself is serious and the NPCs act like things are really serious and bad but the party themselves are a bunch of high energy goofballs that just happen to keep saving the day and the rest of the world is constantly between praising them as heroes, being utterly baffled at their antics, and panicking that they will doom them all”.

All of them have fantastic elements, silly stuff, and thrilling moments.

Also every game needs some room for comedy. You get a group of friends hanging out there's going to be jokes that derail things or result in weird funny situations in character. Like Burton firing off a few rounds into the ceiling and missing half the fight because of it.

Would agree with this choice and also with the reasoning.

There's a few more films in the list which I find inspiring for fantasy adventures, but I don't think I would use D&D for those (e.g. I would probably use TOR for Lord of the Rings-style adventures or Barbarians of Lemuria for Conan-inspired things).
