D&D (2024) Motley Fool Prediction: New Dungeons & Dragons Edition Won't Help Hasbro Much

Yep. It’s entirely possible 2024 sales way worse than 2014. Probably won’t really know for sure either way though.

The market of D&D players has grown significantly from where we started in 2014, but I also don't think we're likely to beat the best sales years either. Of course we won't know because they don't release that kind of info, nor do I expect them to.

I don’t know that this is true.

My understanding is that they are staggering the PHB, DMG, and MM releases because expected demand exceeded capacity at the printers. What years did we see shortage because they couldn't print 'em fast enough?

This, yeah. We might get vague ideas form Amazon sales rank, but with direct pre-orders, we aren't ever going to know....

There's been significant contraction of the printer industry in the US and there's not as much capacity as there used to be. Not sure if that affects anywhere else. But also ... we just don't know. As you said, we can only guess.

I have never been a fan of Motley Fool. At the same time, I don't think there's any way books could have the same impact for WotC as something like Monopoly Go. I suspect the new Edition books will sell really well but how much impact will that really have? Suppose we will see shortly.

I mean compare 2014 sales in 2014 to 2024 sales in 2024. Of course we can’t really do that, but 2024 could sale less.
no, there is no way it can sell less, unless you win on a technicality like 2014 being released in February and 2024 in November. If you look at the first 12 months of sales, it is impossible

How do you figure?
the monthly sales today are higher than they were when 2014 was released, we had several years of strong steady growth in between. So just keeping on selling the 2014 books in 2024 (year) already outsells their 2014 (year) numbers. Add to that all the people that will be upgrading from their 2014 books and there is no way that the 2024 books won’t outsell the 2014 (year) sales
