D&D (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

The rules do assume a 5' "reach". Monks wouldn't be able to punch anything otherwise.
being able to touch something is very different from grappling it

"Grapple" requires 1 hand, and they are still capable of swinging a Glaive while grappled. So it's much more of a Grab at someone's arm or shirt.

not a grapple, have fun dragging anyone over anything that way. The only way is for you to move over it first

No. It's litterally under the same rules.

"An Unarmed Strike is a melee attack that involves you using your body to damage, grapple, or shove a target within 5 feet of you."
not a grapple,
It's a 5e Grapple. Which probably should be called "Grabbed".

If you want to rule it that way, sure.

But that would apply equally to 2014 and 2024.

so you can hit, grapple and shove something that is 5 feet away, sure. What that does and what the end result looks like is very different however, that includes the position of the two after the ‘attack’.

yes, that also applies for 2014. When you grapple someone, you are both occupying the same square(s), otherwise you are holding hands

Grappling in 3.5 was awesome. If you were a player. If you were a DM having stupid barbarian win initiative, run past all the guards and grapple your BBEG wizard before he has a chance like my PC did, probably not as awesome. :)
It was awesome... until a huge monster started chomping on small characters. That wasn't very fun for most characters...

I also really do not like that you can now drag an unwilling person around at full speed. It seems blatantly ludicrous. That some higher level martial had a feature that would let them do it would be fine, that everyone can do it is just silly.
What do you mean "anyone can do it"? It takes a FEAT. It's not "high level" but it IS specialty training.
