Oh, well thats because as you say there is context to bringing it up, vs an ongoing attempt to downplay which has been going on for what, a year?
Again, downplay what?
WotC DIDN'T ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING. That's the end result. Yes, the OGL is gone. Yuppers. It's replaced by a better license that won't fold like a cheap suit at the first legal challenge. There's no downplaying anything here.
The Pinkerton thing is a perfect example. Good grief, WotC did what any reasonable person would do. If you mistakenly shipped me a product, politely asked for it back, and I still refused, people are saying that they would never sue? Seriously? The original story made it sound like they sent in Seal Team 6, kicked in the door, threatened the neighbour and shot the dog. And only one of those is actually an exaggeration of the claims at the time. Turns out, WotC did what any reasonable business would do. They tried to get their property back and when asking didn't work, they escalated by calling in a collection agency. Again, 100% normal, understandable and exactly what anyone else would do.
But, we're what, over a year later, and people are STILL banging the "Jackbooted Stormtroopers" and the poor, innocent youtuber drum.
On and on. Every time there's this big storm of outrage over whatever WotC has done this week, it typically turns out that, no, there's actually no issue here. It's people with a vested interest in playing to the algorithm.
Heck, look at this thread. I posted a while back what I thought was a pretty plausible explanation for all of this. Tito has had to deal with so much crap in the past couple of years from stuff that he had no control over and no input into. Sure, that's his job. Fair enough. But, let's not forget that the last year or so should have been the feather in his cap at the company. Head of Communications for WotC during the 50th anniversary event? That's some carreer making events right there. But, instead of riding a huge wave of good news, he's had to put out fire after fire - the OGL debacle, Hasbro layoffs - most of which had their genesis in shareholder actions. IOW, nothing to do with the people actually working for WotC, but, for a bunch of outside people deciding to make his life a lot less fun.
Not a huge surprise that he might be just the tiniest bit irritated when leaving the company.
