Rings of Power is Back [+] Appreciation

TheSword

Legend
Hey folks. A thread for those that want to discuss Rings of Power in a positive way.

As the other thread has been overwhelmed with negativity this is a thread for those happy to suspend disbelief and just talk about the story, characters, plot etc of Rings of Power,

I appreciate that people feel strongly about adherence to Tolkien’s text and real world or historical accuracy for things like transport, armour and geology. This thread is not gonna be your cuppa tea.

Let’s keep this thread for those that want to talk about the series without dissing it.

One of the things I enjoy the most about this show is Bear McCreary's scores. For my money, his character, race, and location themes are as good as anything in the Jackson et al films. Spent this past week at work listening to the scores for every episode of season 1, and what's available for season 2 thus far.

It's all available on Amazon Prime Music, and most of it is on Spotify. Don't know about Apple Music or whatever it's called.

I feel like season 2 has been a huge step up from season 1. The pacing, plot, and character development are all vastly improved.

IMNSHO, the biggest failure of earlier parts of the show was trying to force "mysteries" into it. Playing silly games like making a big reveal about Sauron's true identity added nothing, and really held the series back from developing plots and characters. Since the series got around to actually telling a story instead of just teasing or laying background, it has improved dramatically.

Here's hoping season 3 stays on track.

I think I've enjoyed this season less than season 1, but it's interesting to think what could have been accomplished with the time that was spent on the big "mystery" of season 1. Or on the flipside, if they had really leaned into the Great Deceiver thing and had more than 2 could-be Saurons.

Anyway, what-ifs aside: I liked what we got there. The focus on Halbrand and Galadriel payed off - and continues to pay off. And that time spent with Hal & Gal also laid the ground work for places Sauron needs to go - Mordor, Eregion, and (I assumes next season) Numenor.

I’ve loved Bear McCreary ever since Black Sails. I really enjoy watching the documentary shorts he was in talking about the music. So much thought goes in.

Just finished the end of episode 7. I feel like a lot happened there and a lot to digest.

I must say I am loving Celebrimbor. He has gone one a real journey from proud, elegant and dare I say arrogant elf lord to be broken by Sauron, to the rise back up against it.

He had a great line, “truly you are the great deceiver, you even deceive yourself”. I though crippling himself to escape was very noble. I also thought the reveal of the illusion with his workshop destroyed and him unwashed and filthy was well done. Even the mouse and the gem that allowed him to see through the illusion. That is some mirrage arcana shiz right there.

I’m liking him a lot.

Though I’m guessing Sauron holds him now until the great ring is forged.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. The music is truly excellent.
