D&D (2024) Do players really want balance?

Not so easy when people have already invested money in 2-3 rulebooks each already. Also, do you have an extra 2-3 copies of the 2E PHB lying around?? I don't.


Sure... you have dozens of RPG groups where you live? I don't. I'm lucky to have the one I've got! The second one I had recently disbanded.

I love the flippant attitude people take with this...

If every edition of D&D was equally accessible in physical form, they might have something. As it is...

I'm not that fanatic about it. 2E great toolbox for DMs. I have the books they're not cheap or easy to aquire now.

My trainee DM ran CoS. Next game might be his.

In case you are interested the 2e core books are print on demand, the PDFs are $10, $10, $6.

2e PH POD+PDF $23, 2e DMG POD+PDF $24, 2e Monstrous Manual POD+PDF $26.19. So about half the price of the 5e core books.

It is the IMO uglier revised full color 2e PH and DMG but the rules text I believe are the same as the original 2e PH and DMG. And they are softcovers and not hardcovers. But they are fairly available if you want to buy them.

They did that already in 2012 or so with their premium OD&D, 1e, 2e, and 3.5 reprints of core books.

I could offer ways and methods to overcome those barriers but it all boils down to "are you welling to put in the work necessary to play 2E?" (Granted, it will take some work)

I don't want to spend the next twenty post giving suggestions if you don't want them.

Edit: looks like people are already helping in getting more 2E books!

I have a number of 2e (and 3e now that I think of it) books at my mum's place, I'll soon be shipping them to my new place and I'm really looking forward to flipping through them again.

I still mine them. 3E adventures are prime conversion candidates.

Fluff is really good.

It's the postage that kills it.
I have 1 PoD 2E book. Cost around 50 usd all up.

I look at places like Noble Knight games and want to cry.

3 midgard books. $200 usd.
