Yes but then there wouldn't have been an example setting for beginning DM's and no Greyhawk for those DM's (beginning and experienced) looking to pilfer ideas or run D&D without creating a world.
Those things would be, as I suggested, in a different book. Having a book about worldbuilding and using Greyhawk as an example would actually be an awesome supplement IMO, like 2e's Worldbuilder's Guidebook (one of my favorites).

On the flipside I have bought the WotC versions of the PHB and DMG and I don't think the article was problematic in any way.

I think reactions to the Kobold Press article are much more based on one's propensity to be offended than on one's support/hatred for WotC
I stand corrected. The two appear to be orthogonal.

So without that how do you show as opposed to tell a DM how to build a campaign setting... or are we expecting the DM to buy another book for something that should be considered a fundamental pillar of DM'ing?

You could shrink the example to a much smaller region, the rest is not really there just to have an example but to showcase GH

You could shrink the example to a much smaller region and 5 pages or so, the rest is not really there just to have an example but to showcase GH
Is that showing how to build out an entire campaign world? I don't think 5 pages and an under-developed region would really benefit new DM's all that much.

EDIT: I'm curious... can you recommend a beginner friendly campaign world that's available and only takes up 5 pages?

No, the whole thing is a showcase for the advice earlier in the book: the pantheon shows what they recommend doing in Chapter 3, etc.
