I am not arguing against there being a starter set. The question is what should be in it, and in this case what should be in the DMGI think a good starter set is critical for a game that's trying to reach a large audience.

That is a really useful question to ask. It seems to me that it depends on what you think the on-ramp is going to be for new DMs. In 5.5E, they didn't think it was going to be a Starter Set, otherwise they would have had one at launch. It seems instead that the new DMG has taken advice that I'd expect to see in the Starter Set and put in in the DMG as a result. That was definitely a choice, not sure how good it is.I am not arguing against there being a starter set. The question is what should be in it, and in this case what should be in the DMG

The upshot of it is that I really wish I could get the magic items and Bastion rules for 5.5E as their own product. I know that's unlikely to happen for Foundry, but it's what I'd prefer. I honestly don't know what else I'm going to want to look at from it. I guess I'm a weird case.
I suppose it will make creating the new Starter Set easier since a bunch of the material will already be in place.
I mean, if I were being completely serious and sincere, maybe, sure. But mostly I was goofingIs this what is called whataboutism?
A bad article from a company stays a bad article from a company.
Twitter people have nothing to do with that.
Same for me. If they want to make the DMG the Intro To DMing book that's fine by me, I'm already using A5E for most of my games- but I do like the Bastion rules as a foundation to build on.The upshot of it is that I really wish I could get the magic items and Bastion rules for 5.5E as their own product. I will say that there is definitely material in the bastion I could adapt for my own game. It's too bad they removed the ala carte option from D&D Beyond. I would buy the bastion rules by themselves if I could.Same for me. The 2024 DMG just isn't a book targeted at experienced DMs. Both A5E and ToV books really are superior in that respect.
Then take out the comment about sufficiency. A few sidebars still means that they are effectively gone. A few sidebars does not a section on optional rules make.I wasn't arguing what was or wasn't sufficient for you. I was arguing whether stating there are no optional/alternate rules in the 2024 DMG was or was not a truthful statement.
Again there's a difference between none and not as many as the previous version. You don't know how many remain so you are effectively making statements about something you have no knowledge of... but please continue to tell me about the DMG you haven't read if you want. Then take out the comment about sufficiency.
