I want the new math SO bad!

I like that they're paying attention to higher CR monsters, too - higher level play needs some goosing.

And the new titans sound interesting. I was also a fan of 4e abominations, which are kind of in the same wheelhouse.

I do anticipate being a little disappointed in fighting skyscraper-sized creatures much like D&D tends to be disappointing in that I can stab it in the toes to death. But not sure phased fights against colossal beings is as convo the MM is ready to have yet. ;)
It will be interesting how they set them up. I've considered using titans but give them weak spots you can attack. Stabbing their toe does nothing, instead do phased fights like you said.

They know the most of players play lower levels. If they add "kaijus" it is because they hope these to sell merchandising. And for possible crossovers of some multimedia project. For example if they wanted a "D&D-Transformers or D&D-Power Rangers" crossovers, then they need those kaijus for epic battles.

Just what we need, another aspect of MOAR POWER!!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!! :devilish::cautious:o_O
For monsters, we ABSOLUTELY needed that. People have been asking for stronger monsters at the higher CRs from the first day 5e came out. No idea why you'd object to that. It's probably the #1 complaint people have had for ages.

So, D&D takes yet another turn for becoming Superheroes vs. God-like monsters. Wonderful...

What are you talking about? We've ALWAYS had God-like monsters in the game. Deities and Demigods was in 1e AD&D for goodness sake. When have we not had God-like monsters?

They should change the name for the next edition: Demi-gods and Destructors. ;)

I feel like you're trying to turn a "they keep upping the power of PCs to superheroes" into a monster-based argument just to repeat it, when it's not very applicable.

Call me when they are 18th and still getting their butts kicked by gnolls.
Ok. :D

I find THAT very hard to believe... especially when more than enough people keep exploring E6, E10, E12 and other lower power game options. 🤷‍♂️

You weren't meant to fight them (the gods, etc.), you know. At least, that never happened in ANY single AD&D game I participated in or heard of.

Now, you want to talk BECMI then fine, the "I" (Immortals) was meant to get to that level. I got there once after about four years of playing a game, and frankly it was pretty lame. It just doesn't work with the D&D mind-set IMO.

It is totally applicable! It is a vicious cycle. You have powerful monsters who can actually kick the PCs' collective butts and then PCs are made stronger, so you need stronger monsters, and so on. IT NEVER ENDS.

Part of the beauty of 5E and the bounded accuracy system is large numbers can, and will, eventually win (or defeat anyway) over powerful creatures (including PCs).

CR 3+ creatures, given sufficient numbers, are still viable foes well into tiers 3 and 4.

There is a point where a DM doesn’t want to throw more monsters at the party. More monsters means more to manage, and increasingly longer battles and time between players’ turns. Aesthetically, the DM may not want to have a fight between the party and a dragon and have to include minions of the dragon to make the fight challenging. There needs to be a way to make the one monster/many PC dynamic work.
