Cookin again

There's a magazine called Taste of Home that might come pretty close to this. They are (or were last I looked inside any issues) very focused on people who do not have unlimited time or money to get food on the table. They also print cookbooks and/or "special issues."
so far the only one i have found is this https://www.amazon.com/Surviving-Fo...1735794636&sprefix=food+desert,aps,151&sr=8-1

Surviving the Food Desert: Cookbook & Food Desert Resource Guide

I would love to find a cookbook that is geared for people who only have a Walmart to get ingredients at.
+1 for @prabe's Taste of home suggestion.

A company I recently just discovered is Gooseberry Patch. They have quite the lineup of humble and inexpensive recipe books like this one.

One example they give:
Grandma Jo's Potato Soup

2 lbs. potatoes, peeled and diced
1/2 lb. carrots, peeled and diced
2 stalks celery, diced
1 onion, diced
4 c. water
12-oz. can evaporated milk
1/4 c. butter, sliced
onion and garlic seasoned salt to taste
pepper to taste
8-oz. pkg. shredded Cheddar cheese
3 slices bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled

Combine vegetables and water in a stockpot over medium-high heat. Cook until vegetables are fork-tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Reduce heat to low; stir in evaporated milk, butter and seasonings. Heat through. Ladle into soup bowls; garnish with cheese and bacon. Serves 6.

That said, I've been pretty impressed with my Walmart's offerings of late. It really looks like they're making an effort to stock better items. Love picking up Japanese Kewpie Mayo, Thai Oyster Sauce, Colombian Hot Sauce, and my favorite local chain's BBQ sauce while shopping.

Been experimenting with smash burgers. One of my better efforts.

It's basically s smash onion burger, cheese, lettuce and tomato.

And added Grandpa's Bacon. It's a NZ brand with manuka honey and smoked. Wasn't to salty either.

Going camping in 2 weeks approx. Might do some burgers for the tribe. 29 750ml bottles of honmbrew beer stocked away. One of my players has taken up brewing.

The Frugal Cook is sorta like that. There’s also at least one cookbook up there that literally collects recipes from the sides of commercial products.

And there’s websites that largely consist of 30 minute meals, with a tendency to rely on inexpensive and common ingredients.

Then there’s just the stuff you learn, like how to jazz up those cheeeeeaaaaaap ramen packets with additional spices, veggies, and maybe some canned chicken and/or a whisked egg.

I sent this video to a buddy who was going on a “Man’s Weekend” out in the woods. He made it, and it was such a hit that he’s made at least 2 everything subsequent wilderness adventure.
