Dragonbane general thread

The video is Derik and Bob talking about Dragonbane as a game for two plus hours: e.g., their experiences playing the game, how the game works, the philosophy of its game design, what they like about it, and how it compares with other TTRPGs. There is no actual play involved.

KoLC have a number of videos where they talk about TTRPG design philosophy and deep dives, particularly non-5e D&D games. (Which are all reasons why their subscriber count tends to be low. 😅)

If you want an actual play, I would potentially suggest The Weekly Scroll who run The Secret of the Dragon Emperor from the box set, though skip Session 0. Session 1 jumps pretty quickly into combat with the usual "goblins attack" scenario.
Another option is Me, Myself, and Die. He does a 2-3 part video series on the Dragonbane solo module. It's a shorter commitment and it's just the one guy talking about the decisions he's making with a little bit of in game stuff between decision points. He's a lot easier to watch than most actual plays, but it's still a struggle. At least for me.

He learns the rules in this one:

And the actual play is here:

I haven't actually shelled out for Dragonbane yet, but I'm still thinking about it.

If I do, I'm going to go whole hog and get all the books.
I get that feeling. But as excited as I am about Dragonbane, I'm trying to pace myself.

I know they're coming out with three books in the next year or two. A magic book, a city campaign, and expert rules. Not sure about the order of release. Those will give us extra professions, heroic abilities, schools of magic and spells, etc plus a full city of intrigue and thieves' guilds and factions to mess with.

I finished reading the core book last night. I think some extra options will significantly increase the appeal of the game to my group (who like crunch on the whole). I’m currently GMing a Savage Worlds campaign which has another 4-6 sessions to run, then it will be someone else’s turn to run. So I have time before getting the game to the table.

Do we know if FL will Kickstart the next books, or just release them conventionally?

The rumor is that if any are Kickstarted it will be the city campaign. People speculating a box set with all the bits you might want for a city campaign like maps, more standees, handouts, etc. The other two will likely be regular releases. But again, pure rumor mill at this point.

If you only get one thing, get the box set. Start there.
100%. The Core Set box is stuffed with goodies. It's absolutely worth the extra $10 compared to the hardback rulebook. Besides the softback rulebook you get: a 116-page sandbox campaign, solo rules (that are great to help group-play prep), a Misty Vale map, a set of dice with 2d20 and 4d6, 10 initiative cards, 11 adventure rumor cards, 18 improvised weapons cards, 40 treasure cards, 40 thick-cardboard standees plus bases, a reversible battle map, five pregens, and five double-sided blank character sheets.

My understanding is that a Magic Book is also in the works.
