Lol, been years. One of the best jokes, and if you look closely at the "Interior Illustrations" on the credits page, it reads:

Tim Beach and Doug Stewart (invisible stalker). Per one of the other artists, it was a prank and so good they kept it.

My favourite Manticore is probably the 5e one. The multiple rows of teeth in the wide jaw look great.

I always liked the 3rd Edition Blink Dog over later ones. 4e and 5e have very aggressive illustrations. 3e is so chill, a dog I'd really like to spend time with...

I think this piece of D&D artwork was the start for quite a number of D&D players way back then. I know it was for me.
