I think this has some nuance based on the fact that 2024 isn't a fully new edition. It exists in the context of being 5e. 5e already has humanoid goblins, and those aren't going anywhere. I suspect the humanoid goblins will use the "generic NPC" statblocks, rather than any entry for "Goblin." It sounds like they're not going to focus on them, but much like, idk, the rune knight, it's still a viable option.
My impression is that for players who start with 5.5 and only own those books, fey goblins will be the only ones that exist.

Waiting to see the actual execution. I like and have long liked the idea of goblinoids having a fey origin; which is in keeping with myth and faerie-tale fantasy origins. I am, however, STRONGLY against the idea of the rank-and-file goblinoid variations no longer counting as a humanoid. Because this would break lore continuity and place undesirable limits on enchantment spells against common low-level enemies.

So if the MM includes a few stronger or rarer fey-based goblinoid variants - cool. If the default is that virtually none are humanoids any longer then the change won't ever see the light of day in any of my games.
