I've never managed to complete Bored of the Rings.

And I've only seen the movies once.

And live in NZ.
Like you, I've never managed to complete lord of the rings or the hobbit, Tolkein was such a boring writer. I've watched the movies, though not the hobbit trilogy (could not be arsed watching that as a trilogy).

Haven't seen the hobbit trilogy either.

Underrated: The Last Jedi, one of the only good Star Wars movies.
The Last Jedi is amazing and I love it.

I thought the 2004 DotD remake had a fantastic opening. In a few minutes, they did more to explain the zombie apocalypse than the entire first season of Fear the Walking Dead. I will admit to preferring the original, but if you prefer the remake I'm just going to give you a high five and talk about all the cool stuff in it.
Yeah, my phrasing got drunk or something. I love that escalating view of how badly wrong things have gotten so quickly. What I meant to say is that the remake doesn’t have a scene to match the one inside the newsroom as everything goes to hell, and that I love the mood it builds. So let’s just pretend I did say that.

IIRC Tolkien was in one of the World Wars which inspired a lot of the story for LotR. Then the Counterculture of the 60s gave it quite a following. I doubt that it will be nearly as popular with younger generations to come.
Anecdotally, I can support this. One of the things you can do as a teacher is observe what the kids are reading. Before and during the movies, LotR was common. Since the movies, it's completely disappeared.

On SW...I love the Disney trilogy...

As for the DotD remake, it has it's moments any short comings however are made up by the special feature which is a new broadcast over a 24 hr time frame as things go to hell in a hand basket. I should note that I was lucky enough to get the now long out of print ultimate edition of the original, which includes 3 different versions and a fourth disc that is nothing but documentaries including an actual commercial for the mall. I also own the novelization so i might be a bit bias in which one i like.
