D&D (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

Yeah dude, if you dump stat strength you are a weakling. Does not matter if you are a monk or a wizard. You are still wearing robes :D
Honestly, I've only seen one player dump Str for their monk character, and they very quickly regretted it.

And fighters are the weak ones for needing something between themselves and the enemy to keep from getting hurt :P .

Then you play in different games than me. Strength or Intelligence are often the default dumps for monks in my groups as they have little to offer and most strength checks are done by a dex check equivalent such as acrobatics for athletics checks. The whole point of finesse weapons is to get around strength for hit and damage. Monk attacks may use dex so yeah many monks are weaklings.
The only fighters that need a protector are archers and yeah they are weaklings :P

No class should make another class’s main ability obsolete at 5th level.
Uh, then you might want to check out what your cleric, sorcerer, wizard, etc. traveling companions are capable of. At 1st level, even!

Oh please. Having a strength is different than completely negating an ability. There is no 1rst level spell that is an auto win button that cannot be countered at all. If spell casters were so overpowered then no one would play a martial. D&D is NOT a pvp game. That being said no power should create an auto win.

Aaaand we're back to square one.

First, you're the one who brought up PvP. This was a topic about fighting lycanthropes, when you said:
That is ridiculously overpowered! So my barbarian can shrug off a massive giant’s club or a Dragon’s bite but a wimpy monk yell “Wah-Pow!” and cuts right through my defenses?
And now you're changing goalposts. You were complaining about a monk's Force damage bypassing a barbarian's DR with:

No one mentioned "auto win" until you did, just now.

And in any case, how is a monk's unarmed attack an "auto win" against a barbarian, any more than a magic missile is?

Easy dude. Can I flurry a magic missile spell five times? Are all flurry attacks automatically blocked by a simple first level spell like shield? Talk about goal posts, you are off the field.

My monk has an 8 in intelligence and 10 in strength. And she definitely doesn't need a protector.

If you're playing a monk, you care about dexterity, wisdom, and constitution, in that order. The rest don't matter.

Getting back to the OP, I think lycanthropes should be specifically resistant to damage from anything but silvered weapons, and you should need a silvered weapon (or maybe the magical equivalent) to finish them off, just like you need fire or acid for a troll. It's such a part of the iconic lore that it feels weird that they are now just another mundane creature, for the most part.

I also hate that most creatures have lost their immunity to non-magical weapons; I would have gone the other way: keep the immunity to non-magical, and buff it to include resistance to magical.

Thank you. That is a well thought out and reasonable post. Many could learn from your example. 👍
