Who’s your vote for the next James Bond?

Whilst “make a movie about a different superspy” may seem obvious, but it’s been done many times. There was a whole rash of them in the 60s when Doctor No was a big hit, mostly of the American Bond subtype, and there has been a steady flow ever since. Occasionally, they even feature female spies. Aside from a couple of TV shows (UNCLE, The Avengers) they are largely forgotten (Our Man Flint anyone?)

The sad fact is it’s hard to have a big hit with superheroes without the Marvel branding, a hit space adventure without the Star Wars branding, or spy adventure without the Bond branding.
I think that I enjoyed the tongue in cheek of both the Flint and Matt Helm series more than Bond. Recently I quite liked "Atomic Blonde" which was based on a graphic novel, and starred Charlize Theron.

Rowan Atkinson. Final answer.
We did get a couple of Johnny English movies, didn't we?

There was already an attempt to do an American James Bond: Remo Williams. He was supposed to be a blue collar American James Bond
Eh, not really. That was an adaptation of the absurdly prolific The Destroyer novel series, and is kind of a mix of a spy movie and a super martial arts movie. The importance of his special martial art and the powers it gives him, and his abandonment of weapons, are pretty prominent. I don't think it has a ton of thematic overlap with Bond.

Rege-Jean Page
This could be good.

Will Poulter, Nicolas Hoult, and Aaron Taylor Johnson would be my top three. Though Nicolas Hoult really has too kind a face, but he's a great actor (the best of the three, IMO) so... he could probably pull it off in spite of that.

Will Poulter.
This is my vote. Will's got a good serious face, he's a good actor but not a leading man yet, he's 32 and 6'3".

It was a book series long before it was a movie. But the reason they wanted to do the film was this idea of a blue collar American James Bond. That is why they got Guy Hamilton to direct it and Christopher Wood to write the script

Interestingly, both Ian Fleming and John LaCarre were spies in real life, and their literary characters are aligned with how the men individually saw themselves and their "profession" at the time. Fleming was a womanizing dolt, by all accounts, and Bond is his self insert character.

I would love to see a Bond film that really embraces his stupidity and vile behavior, with the rest of MI6 having to deal with the fallout and try and get the mission accomplished IN SPITE of Bond.

Hoult is a great actor, but I don’t think he has the raw animal magnetism that bond is supposed to portray, either in a more primal way (like Craig) or in a more Swavy way (like brosnen)

Not an exact copy of what you are saying, but the comedy spy movie with Melissa McCarthy has such a character played well by Jason Statham.

That movie was funny.

I wasn't really thinking "comedy" though -- just a takedown.

I always imagine that how they use Bond anyway.

MI6 HQ:
Le Carre style spy "Well, M, we think there is a connection between A and X but we cannot trace it."
M "Why don't we send in Bond, watch to see who shoots at him, tag and monitor the survivors".
.....
