General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

Again, I think that each director wanted to put his own stamp on the franchise, rather than serve the story or the characters. It was too disjointed to have any sort of character progression, and indeed each character seemed to have a more or less erratic movement through the plot in terms of any personal growth.
Which sucks, becasue the characters were the only thing I liked in the sequel trilogy movies. Then, nothing terribly interesting happens with them.

They really should have concentrated on good story arcs for Finn (can he really escape his programming? can he help others), Rey (anyone can use the force), and Ben (he was a villain that could have been a great villain, can Luke and Han and Leia stop their creation).....and their arcs. I really did not love most of the decisions after the first movie.

The Poe arc in TLJ was so forced it was eye roll worthy. That alone ruined that movie for me. Though, yes, every one of these characters had great potential and I was just waiting for something to take them to the next level, but i was left wanting.

Poe went from being a character I really liked in the first movie to being one I really hated by the end of the second movie.

I really hope Lucasfilm eventually engages with the Sequel Trilogy they way they have with the OT and prequels, maybe when Gen Z are all adults, and help these characters realize their obvious potential.

Yeah I didn't even comment on this one, but it felt like the director was poking me in the eye for liking Poe in the first movie. Also what a waste of Oscar Isaac. He is a really good actor (I loved him in stuff like Agora and Ex Machina)

Finn got screwed as well.

TLJ isn't a bad movie as such by itself. It's a poor sequel.

JJ sure you can nitpick TFA but I thought he set things up reasonably well.

I agree. The first movie had me excited we might be getting a solid trilogy (probably not something on the level of the first one but still leagues better than the prequels). TLJ was entertaining on its own as you say but was like throwing a wrench in the spokes of a moving bicycle
