Fair enough. I very much do, not that lore is all of it of course.I do not take lore into the equation of the “is it a new edition” debate.

Having known my share of evil wizards, I think they'd tell you the line between them and evil gods is pretty thin.I feel that a lot of the hooks and lore in the new MM are tied to deities and gods, more than previously. "An evil god did it" seems to have taken the place of "a wizard did it", at least to some extent.
I've still got a lot to go through, but the 2014 chimera and merrow have an association with Demogorgon that their 2025 counterparts lack.I feel that a lot of the hooks and lore in the new MM are tied to deities and gods, more than previously. Some are changed more than others, but there are some trends...Has anyone made a comparison of the changes in MM 2014 and MM 2025? If so, is there a common tread in there that we could apply to monsters from other (2014) sources to make them more in line with the 2024 rules set?
I do not have the impression that it took those changes for you to finally conclude thisThese kinds of changes make it very hard for me to see this as the same game as 2014 5e, no matter what they say or how similar the math is.
Not really no, but it is a very solid reason for my conclusion as far as I'm concerned.I do not have the impression that it took those changes for you to finally conclude this![]()
HP only doubled for creatures that used to have resistance. Some are changed more than others, but there are some trends...
Increase damage, remove non-magical damage resistance, increase HP by as much as double for monsters in the 10-14 CR range, and put few to no damaging spells in their Spellcasting trait, but replace the damage with very potent multiattacks.
