One of the things in the 2014 rules that amused me was that demons and devils didn't do magic damage, and so could barely hurt each other, until they did force later....

Now? It looks like fiends can be hurt by normal attacks. I assume this means they'll be killing each other faster....

While it simplifies the game, it's just more boring stuff that reduces monsters to all the same, imo.

I had the Blood War boxed set for years and it sat on my shelf. The concept was cool, but we never used it. I think in 2E the Baatezu, Tannar'ri, Yugoloths, hags etc. involved would most likely stop the party in their tracks when the first battle broke out. Seemed like the DM would have to craft encounters very carefully, and tread lightly to avoid a TPK. We didn't play high level games so we couldn't have the party be direct combatants. They'd have to be more sideline players, which kind of defeats the purpose of the Blood War IMO. I think that boxed set could've been paired pretty successfully with Battle Systems to portray the war.

The Blood War assumed their various attacks would be more effective on each other. Also the various Demons and Devils still have resistance to lots of damage types just not BPS anymore as a whole, it means they will generally be more effective against magic users and less so against powerful warriors.

Still I don’t get how this makes them more boring as the majority of fiends have gotten new stuff or more effective ways to use their old stuff.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. The cabernet war begins

I don’t think there’s a limit to the number of devils or demons. I don’t think they have a fixed population that could be eliminated. I think there’s an endless supply on each side, the war will never end. PCs can’t change anything in The Abyss or Nine Hells, everyone gets replaced. It’s endless, the evil. It’s a funny point on mechanics,I like, but, their carnage will be endless regardless of how savage. Also why those planes boring. Can’t change them no matter who you kill.
