easiest way to solve this is just to have a rule like "monsters of CR X+ treat their attacks as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance/immunity" tbh

They reason they took them away is that it broke CR. Once you had a magic weapon you bypassed the resistance and the monster didn't live up to the CR. So gone with resistances and up with HP. It is a simple fix to the issue, but I would have preferred a different one myself.One of the things in the 2014 rules that amused me was that demons and devils didn't do magic damage, and so could barely hurt each other, until they did force later....
Now? It looks like fiends can be hurt by normal attacks. I assume this means they'll be killing each other faster....
While it simplifies the game, it's just more boring stuff that reduces monsters to all the same, imo.

If you look at the current cosmology of planes the Abyss is the trash can of the universe where all the stuff that even hell has determined is too bad for the universe to contain get's thrown. All the blood war really is is hell doing it's job and containing the demons till they get ejected back into the void. At least that's how I run it. Demons that get out into the universe (with the exceptions of shadow demons, who are going to be swallowed by the negative energy plane anyway) have escaped their fate and nearly everyone should be trying to send them back where they belong. I run it as the demons only way out is to go through Hell. (all 9 layers, or get some stupid mortal to summon them out. ) So yeah it's boring but it'll never end.
