I haven't seen any of the new core rulebooks at the mainstream stores. I feel like for a while I saw a lot of DnD books at Target but I was just there today and took a peek and they don't have any TTRPG stuff to be found anymore.

That's because Hasbro dropped Random House, who stocks Target's book section.

Look to see the new Starter Set at Target, however.

I believe Hasbro supplies Target too. In fact if I remember correctly it was one of the reasons for Hasbro taking g over D&D distribution, to bring D&D under their other distribution.

I remember those days. Every Walden books at the mall had shelves filled with D&D. I am old enough to remember going to an indoor mall with standing ashtrays for smoking and walking to the Walden books while my mom was in Caldor. Of course most of these stores have themselves disappeared

But it was probably a bad call, since Target isn’t going to put games in the book section, or books in the toys and games section.

I believe books and games from Hasbro were already part of the Hasbro distribution to target.

But maybe?

I mean remember one of those starter sets was out of a direct demand from Target.

Indeed, but Target will buy stock for their bookshelves from their book suppliers, not their toy and game suppliers.

It will work okay for boxed sets, since they go on the game shelves, but they won’t get anything to put on the book shelves.
