House of Dragons vs. Rings of Power (and a touch of Wheel of Time)

I'm only addressing rings of power. I think they screwed themselves with some of the liberties they took with the story. You don't pull stuff out of lost tales and the silmarillion to grab the geeks then mangle it. Like sauron not being captured and imprisoned by Numenor. The wonderful story we could have had. Of him corrupting first the jailors the the rulers then the nobility and.people of power before the fall could have been many episodes of HOD miserableness and great story telling but somebody decided to cut the greatest corruption story of middle earth into a simple he shows up and the island sinks. Add bad writing like Galadriel instead of refusing to leave Middle Earth decides to swim back...😵‍💫. Stick a fork in it it's done.
There's still a good chance that Sauron's captivity in Numenor will be portrayed - although I'm confident it will be bungled, like the rest of the show. (I've expressed my issues with RoP in other threads - at length, quite forthrightly and unapologetically - and alienated a number of posters in the process 🤷‍♂️, Whatya gonna do? I refuse to defend the indefensible.)

I found S1 of HotD to be enjoyable. The second season kind of ... disintegrated, and I felt the final episode was verging on incoherent. I'm willing to give S3 a shot when it comes out, as I haven't abandoned all hope. (I'm not really much of a GRRM fan, as I find his style too drawn out and his sensibilities rather misanthropic; that said, I thought seasons 1-4 of the GoT adaptation were great).

HoD is an honest attempt by competent professionals to bring a talented novelists work to screen. We can discuss how successful it is.

RoP is just crap.

Amazon incompetently paid billions for the rights to a few pages of footnotes covering 3 and a half thousand years of history and then paid some talentless hacks to stitch up a ghastly pastiche than simultaneously is constrained by yet insults the original material.

You’re not a fan then?

I made it through 4-5 episodes of Wheel of Time and lost interest; I'm not going back to it. I made it through 1.5 seasons of Rings of Power and my spouse lost interest. I wasn't engaged enough to keep watching by myself but it wasn't bad; I might finish the season. I wasn't in a rush to watch Season 2 of House of the Dragon, but when I did, I enjoyed it.

So I would rate them as:
WoT: C-
RoP: C+
HoD: B

Anyone who gave up on Wheel of Time, I would suggest checking out at least the first episode of Season 3 (the first three episodes of the season were released Thursday). It's taken such a leap of quality that it looks and feels completely different. All three episodes so far this season have been quite good.

Eh, what I saw of the first season was pretty bad, and given the limitations of the source material I can't see that much upside potential. We're not talking Tolkien, or even pseudo-Tolkien here.
