Virtual Happy Hour (Brews & Spirits, Pics & Reviews)

Delayed virtual Happy Hour, but warm enough to sit outside.
Hi-wire brewing 10-W 40 Spicewalla Pumpkin Latte Imperial Stout. 8% ABV, 89=Very Good on Beer Advocate.
It's fine... but a bit too smooth around the edges for what I like in a stout. Solid Pumpkin Choice, but not in my top tier.

Two new tries recently.

Speights Summit low carb beer.

Never been impressed with Speight actively dislike it. Summits better than their usual slop. It was a deal with burger and fries so picked the best of bad options available.

Vaguely unpleasant wasn't good and I think it was only 4%. Throughly underwhelming even being basically free couldn't save it. I did manage to finish it and it wasn't disgusting as such. 5/10. I could drink it if I really had to but meh. Hot summer dsy, free and only beer available would be that requirement. Burger was nice chips were 5/10 maybe 4.5 as we didn't finish them.

Boundary Road Brewery Pilsner.

Don't generally go for BRB buy haven't had it for years. Was in a bottle store near ganestore price was right.

Surprised i enjoyed it. Hopped NZ poster style @payn.

Different than pilsner I usually drink (European imported pilsner usually Germsn, Czech).

For a Macro cheap beer 8
/10. Beer snob it's probably a 6.5 or 7. I liked it drunk 4.

Got desperate few weeks back. Wine Australian even. Thought I would class the joint up.

Pure class nice wine glass. Lolly water but it was there and someone has to drink it.

Wife hooked into the ciders. Cheap date 3 had an effect.

For Paddy's day my local supermarkets always have specials on Irish beer and cider, so I picked up an eight pack of Guinness and a four pack of Magner's pint cans, even though I'm not drinking at home really, other than with company occasionally.

There were two birthday parties over this past weekend, so I had an excuse to bring them, and I had a couple of Black Velvets, mixing the two beverages half and half. It'd been a few years since I last did, but still a pretty nice party drink.

I don't mind Guiness. They make Kilkenny same mouth feel but amber red ale and I love that beer. It's just really expensive double the price of beer i posted above.

Restaurant that had it at reasonable price burnt down.

Over the bar it's generally same price as fruity IPA craft beer.

I'm not usually into reds. If I'm looking for that kind of rich mouth feel I'm more likely to go for something like a Fuller's ESB, Boddington or Old Speckled Hen most of the time. But Guinness is a classic and sometimes it's the move.

Fair enough for whatever reason I love Kilkenny. Guinness is perfectly drinkable as well tbh.

@payn iirc you said you were brewing with NZ hops? Familiar with Pacifica or Taiheke ones?

Like the 6 pack enough to go buy a dozen. Same brand had a Pale ale at D&D as player bought 6 pack to share.
Might pull a January tonight. Nothing flash reasonably priced macro lager 5%.

Ithaca Red Velvet Porter. One description says:

'A unique and unprecedented “red” twist on a porter, Red Velvet Porter presents notes of cocoa, rich chocolate, toffee, and deep caramel sweetness, vanilla, and a hint of frosting alongside an alluring, and brilliant garnet presentation. Red Velvet Porter showcases the range and special qualities of malts categorized as “Caramel & Crystal”, all while maintaing a high level of drinkability. Restrained additions of 100% Pure Bourbon Vanilla Extract, and natural flavorings add the perfect accent, creating the fantasy of lush red velvet cake.'

It did not remind me of Red Velvet cake at all, but but I would believe bourbon vanilla extract. Was drinkable but not spectacular.

I think if you are gonna name your beer something like this it’s gotta taste like that thing.

Kind of want to try that.

At pub coffee atm. See what I get.

Beer taps. One in the middle is a premium local beer brewed in my city. Started doing craft beer stuff since before it was cool circa 1993 20250401_171359.jpg

This place is also my favorite coffee place though. Decaf mocha.
