Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

Title had always felt superfluous to me. I’m not sure what it actually drives in-game. Even Background technically has mechanical effects—for reasonable checks connected to your background, you should be granted automatic success.
It appears reputation is going to replace whatever the intent behind Titles might have been.
I think titles were just meant to be a fun 1E-ism.

I'm a bit disappointed in the paladin, or at least Kelsey's first draft of it. I've never liked mounted combat in D&D. Too wargamey for my taste. So to me, the new paladin is a big pile of blah -- except for the death save boost, which seems very strong.

Some of my fondest D&D memories are fighting with a lance on horseback (it was actually a giant goat). To each their own.
 

I like her take on it. It’s like her Ranger. It’s not bog standard D&D converted to SD. It’s based on actual lore or the defining story character they are meant to represent.

Like modern D&D Ranger is based more on WoW than Aragorn.

The only thing I don't like is the mount, and the related lance.

Strong as in powerful, or strong as in cool design? (Or both?)

I definitely agree about the latter. Maybe the former, too.
 

Even without the mount you get a bonus to hit, d8 up all armor and shields, a decent selection of weapons, a great death save boost for the party. In my opinion the mount doesn't take up that much design space, power, so even when you are off your mount you are still a good character.
