And the kid using the Force on the casino planet isn't much help since it's a generational seed taking root and wouldn't help the next movie unless Rise of Skywalker had been set WAY in the future.
He's not meant to be the next big hero specifically, he's meant to represent the movie's message of hope - that anyone can answer the call, and that while not everyone can be a Jedi, a Jedi could be anyone.

Which, of course, was promptly and thoroughly squashed in the sequel as Rey is rewritten to be a combo chosen one and honourary Disney Princess.

JJ did a reasonable job setting up. Rey got a great intro. First 30 minutes were great, rest was a bit to ANH but understandable pkaying it safe after prequels.

After TFA you pretty much have to blame Rian Johnson or Lucasfilm pick your poison.

If the Last Jedi was really that good then The Rise of Skywalker would not have been such a huge clustertruck that I have never shown it to my Dad.
One of the main problems of Riae of Skywalker is specifically that Luchasfilm failed to follow through on anything from Last Jedi. If Rise of Skywalker had even been a mediocre riff on Last Jedi, it would have been a million time better.

Underrated: Warcraft, The Mummy (Tom Cruise's)
Loved Warcraft and thought The Mummy was a pretty decent opening for a dark-Earth styled storyline.
We were robbed of two potentially great franchises.

Overrated: Man of Steel
If only Kal-El's dad had made the effort to get a USB with a larger HD capacity, so he could fit an AI version of his wife, it would have saved Supes some major heartbreak. Also apparently you don't need papers to enter secret US army dig sites. Finally that combat from the mid-to-the-end of the movie was so long that it felt like the equivalent of a 4e Encounter using THACO.
LOL.

Overrated: Fritz Leibers Fafhrd and Grey Mouser series. I have tried on numerous occasions to read this literature and I just cannot get through his writing style. He's supposed to be this icon of S&S fantasy but I just can't handle it.

Underrated: Last Action Hero, this movie gets a lot of hate, but I get that it was a parody of action movies and correctly gets the reaction to someone in our world ending up in action movie world.

Probably gave to watch DS9 more.

B5 dies look worse comparatively. I like the story better.

DS9 has really good character development not just relative to othervtrek shows.

I'm wondering if you grew up with TNG let's one overlook certain things. 3 characters soak up way more screen time tgan the rest, character development isn't great, first two seasons are fairly bad.

I don't mind a roughfirst season but even then it's often relative to what came after. I suspect TNG would get canceled if it screened 20 to 30 years later (assume it had contemporary special effects).

DS9, SG1, B5 have kinda slow season 1 but they're not that bad.
The saddest thing about Babylon 5 is when you see the opening credits and realize how many cast members are gone now. And not of old age either.

Overrated: Uncanny X-Men after the death of Jean Grey. It was effing dynamite before that, but after Jean's suicide it really kind of sputters out over the course of the next few years. Much of the chemistry that had been growing between characters starts to get staler and staler. As much as I respect Chris Claremont (particularly his Avengers Annual #10), he ended up being with the title too long.

Underrated: Star Trek: Enterprise. It's not top of the line Star Trek by any means, but there are some stand-out characters among the main cast and guests. I think it suffers from a few key problems - 1) the theme music is jarringly non-Star Trekish, 2) it bogs down a bit in the Xindi storyline which dominates too much of the time, and 3) it wasn't distributed in syndication. Trying to anchor the UPN with it, I think, limited its reach. The prior 3 Star Trek series had all been readily available to me on one of my local channels through syndication and ran a full 7 seasons each - but by being UPN which was carried locally on a weakly transmitted CW station meant I couldn't watch it.
Enterprise is my favorite Star Trek.

I can get this - I love Leiber but his writing can be challenging and won't be to everyone's tastes.

And I totally agree on Last Action Hero. That movie is a gem and people were just not prepared for Schwarzenegger to appear in an action comedy at the time. He was just coming off of T2 and Total Recall, and I think a lot of people just expected another action flick.
