At the very least read Molly Bang's "How Pictures Work" and learn the basics of design and composition,
Why? So it can look like all the other art out there?

To me that'd seem to defeat much of the purpose.

Same principle as playing music - sometimes the very best stuff comes from people with no "professional" training whatsoever. They just play what sounds good, and how about that - it sounds good even though music teachers everywhere would squawk because it doesn't always follow the patterns and progressions etc. it's supposed to.

I've been experimenting with an airbrush/acrylic look that is a bit similar to the 80s/90s TSR art. Here's an attempt at the DMG 1E in that style:

These are horrible. They have all the elements of bad taste and bad design. You're visually illiterate. At the very least read Molly Bang's "How Pictures Work" and learn the basics of design and composition, because this is appalling. You're insulting every professional artist here and you're embarrassing yourself. I'm now pissed I ever gave MT Black money.
I know this is a controversial topic, and that is why we have this thread - so the conversation can stay here. Folks can easily avoid this discussion if they wish.

For the record, I don't use AI art in any of my commercial products, as you can easily verify. This thread is for experiments and fun only, from my perspective. Having said that, I suspect AI will play an increasing role in many/most professions in the future, including the creative arts.

That's exactly why we post in this thread! ;)
And you mean illustrator, right... Artists make art, illustrators illustrate, the later work for their money.

That is BS distinction. It is is both insulting and incorrect. Illustrators are artists and artists who do artwork other than illustrations are still generally working for their money (i.e. they sell paintings etc.) Granted, the AI is quickly destroying the ability for most artists to make money with their art.

Amusingly, you can pick out the Kickstarters that are AI art pretty quick. I generally will have an Bing/Image Creator thing open and click it now and then when I'm thinking about my RPG stuff, but its the fact that it hits on the basic 'trope' of what I'm looking for, that it has value.

I think that depends on the image and the art style. The more realistic the style and the more familiar the subject the easier it is to spot “AI” art. But the further you move away from realism and human subjects in familiar settings the harder it is.

Nope. You can have very "unsexy" elves. Regardless, "sexy" =/= exposed cleavage. It is thinking we need to move away from and quickly.
