I’ve just been reminded of this one:
Underrated: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (Disney).
Yes, this, 100%. I don't know that I'd call it a good movie, but it is a movie where Helen Mirren fights Hussar terminators with a bull whip, and that's great fun. Also, Kiera Knightly as the Sugarplum Fairy is the wildest thing, just off the wall insane and so much fun.
Other underrated movies:
*Jupiter Ascending. Sky roller blading. Nonsensical space politics. Eddie Redmayne whisper shouting as he devours the scenery. Extreme tonal shifts that will give you whiplash every five minutes. "Bees recognize royalty". Odd nonsequitor homages to Terry Gilliam's
Brazil. What more could you want?
*Smile 1 & 2. Genuinely disturbing at times, occasionally hilarious, the sequel is actually better than the first one (the scene with the dancers in the apartment... hachi machi...) Worth a watch.
*Trap. If I thought M. Night Shayamalan had even an ounce of self awareness I'd call it by far his best comedic film. The cast mostly understands the assignment though, especially Josh Hartnett. At one point Kid Cudi shows up, screams at a lady about Kombucha, flirts with Hartnett, then walks out the movie and our lives forever. This barely cracks the top 5 strangest things that happens in this movie. Best enjoyed with friends and... altered through your preferred methods.
