That's kind of the case with a books and movies as well. By the time I saw The Godfather, I was about thirty and the movie had been around a few years longer than me, so I had seen a whole slew of movies that it influenced as well as watching countless parodies. Even though I had never seen it, I knew the plot, the names of many characters, and there wasn't much in the way of surprises, so it didn't have the same impact it would have had on audiences in 1972. That's not even considering the changes in how movies are made, in 1972 the last vestiges of the Hays Code had only been abandoned a few years earlier whereas I lived my entire life without the code.
Also it was a movie from the 70s gently chiding the 50s at times, and I missed that. Also saw it for the first time as an adult, in a film class, around 2000. Still, I have no strong opinions on Gangster movies (or the crime genre in particular), and I still was able to recognize it as one of the 'best' movies I'd ever seen. Even if I'd never heard of The Godfather the cultural phenomenon, I'd of walked out saying, 'ooh, I bet that got a lot of awards and praise when it was released.'
It got 7 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Calling that underrated is almost enough to make me flip sides and call it overrated.
I think it is hitting my Babylon 5/Deep Space Nine threshold of 'it must be over-rated, because nothing that is merely a tv show/movie could live up to that level of hype.'
Classic Country - My wife left me and my dog died music.

Modern Country - Pop, but with a nasal twang.
I prefer:
Classic Country - My wife left me and my dog died music you listen to in the scratched up bed of a pickup truck.

Modern Country - My wife left me and my dog died music you listen to in the oversized cab of a pickup truck with a scratchless bed.

Country music of the next decade or so -- My truck left me music.

I think Babylon 5 is massively overrated and DS9 moderately so. I watched and enjoyed all of DS9, but it’s not especially groundbreaking. Babylon 5 is just bad IMO.

Despite it being one of my all-time favourite Sci-Fi shows I would say that the acting was Soap Opera grade, but the writing and continuity were stellar. It truly excelled with G'Kar's character arc from terrorist, to religious/philosophical figure.
