I'm sure they rather we forget everything other than their current ruleset altogether and just call it D&D.

Of course not, but most companies don't want their consumers giving any thought to products they no longer sell or support.

Of course not, but most companies don't want their consumers giving any thought to products they no longer sell or support.

They also don't want their consumers to be thinking of their competitors' products, including those that were built off of their own work. Businesses are almost always copying each other's work.

I use the 40th anniversary vs the 50th anniversary editions.

Everyone around me (irl) just says 5E, and mostly they mean 5.5 now.
But I don't mind what anybody else uses; I understand what they mean.
