D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

I wouldn’t play a pregen for anything longer than a single session. I see no virtue in a pregen.

If you want PCs to play simple characters ask them to make simple characters.

What counts as simple though is subjective. The pre cons get around that.

And yeah coukd cause arguments as well over things like feats.

Just an idea anyway their choice may be pre cons or no higher level game.

I’d pitch my pre-generated rulings to the DM, which would be that the pre-gens are fake news and that a band of female elves who are totally into my non-pre-generated character come to his aid when needed, with “as needed” defined by my character.

The OP seems to have a lot of detail for a hypothetical.

I would play pregens for a 1-shot like others have said. Even if the dungeon lasted a couple weeks, but for a few months I would make a PC. I can see others in my group wanting to just take one made for them at that level since things start to be more complex and if people do not normally play that level or slowly advance in their powers it could help.

Easiest example I coukd think of. BG4 pen and paper version or one pre con of the phb for each class would be what I woukd consider running.

I'm not even at the planning stage or anything just pondering if I were to run a 12+ game in 5.5 I would prefer a small campaign with less moving parts.

Basic idea is reduced complexity vs play what you want.
I'm assuming the goal is less complexity for the DM, not the players. My first instinct is if I showed for a session to play and the DM handed me a random 12th lvl PC 5.0/5.5 to play, I wouldn't. Thats a lot of options to digest and wouldn't be comfortable enough with the rules to play them effectively without stalling the game by looking up rules. Now if there was a session zero and I had the option to pick my lineage, background and class and then let the DM create the PC with time to review it before play I would be game. Though I think it would be easier for the DM just to give players guidelines and exceptions for chargen if the goal is simpler characters.

Just a thought atm and it would be run up flag poke.
Current campaign has around 10 sessions left probably. Then I'll be playing.

A small side diversion/test bed is the basic idea. It's not being sprung on anyone.

For a one-shot, or a campaign that’s expected to only run a few sessions? Sure, why not? Might be fun. I might even learn a thing or two.

For a full campaign, I’d want to play a character or concept that interests me enough to keep me invested for the long haul.
