D&D General Fall of Netheril- The Return of the Arcane Age Subsetting

I increasingly think the 3rd DLC will be a Species of "book" given it has 7 species. Probably lore for those 7 species plus MoM species that aren't in the PHB. Maybe something on Spelljammer species too maybe.
it will take more than 7 species to justify the $20 price tag… if it contains the MotM ones, would they not say that it includes more than 7?

Yeah, 7 Species is like 14 pages, max, and based on the description of the first two products these seem to be far more substantial.

Spelljammer or Kara-Tur feel the most likely to me, IMO. Particularly thinking about the firemen, providing updated Gith (both of em), Thri-kreen, etc. Just describing who already "canonically" lives in realmsapace...7, easy.

They don't need that. KotB takes place in Greyhawk, which they are continuing to use (as the 2024 DMG did) as their "sample" setting.
Most WotC adventures have alternative suggestions for locations. Someone may want to teach some people how to play, then continue the campaign in the Forgotten Realms.

Anyway, KotB started out setting agnostic, then moved to Mystara, and only moved to Greyhawk after that.

Oh, I'm not saying that it won't have one of those sidebars - just that AFAIK they are setting it in Greyhawk - they won't need to officially place it in FR, aside from maybe making a suggestion or two in a sentence.

Spelljammer is way too big to put in that DLC, even just Realmspace us really big.

I think your Underdark idea is more likely, or another region of Faerun, but I struggle to figure out what region of Faerun would justify 7 Species?

Kara Tur is huge, 10 regions, although most are a single nation, with a few exceptions.

What do you think the page count for the DLCs will be? If it's 50 pages minimum maybe.

I still think Kara Tur justifies a book of its own. Even Al Qadim is more likely, it's just 1 big empire mostly. But perhaps that's stepping too much on Calimshan's toes too soon.

Unapproachable East is more likely honestly. It's the end of the Silk Road so Kara Tur species like Spirit Folk and Hengyokai end up there, but you also get feywild stiff, and maybe experimental creatures from Thay? I could even see Genasi showing up given in ancient times an Avatar of Kossuth was summoned to the area.

Maybe Old Empires Region? I can see Reborn and a weird twist on Mummies, Genasi of Akanul, close enough to the Shaar maybe for Wemics & Loxo. Satytrs and Nymphs in nearby Chessenta.

I think the page count is more than enough to give a bigger depiction than spelljammer systems got in the Spelljammer set.

Yeah, it’s not like they are going to give a detailed description of every settlement on Abeir. A system level overview, plus a couple of key “space” locations like the githyanki crèche in the Tears of Selune.

I'm still skeptical it'll be spelljammer, that is a separate setting from FR, not a subsetting, although they overlap in Realmspace. Still I don't think they will di that in s Realms facing product.

I think either a species DLC that doesn't just cover lore for say the 7 new species, but also MoM species, which is like what dozens of species, makes the most sense since of the mentioned things in Ultimate Bundle the only thing this DLC gets is a pile of species.

Otherwise I think it will focus on a region of Faerun, outside chance of Kara Tur, but folks will freak out of they can't get it in paper format, so a Faerun regional guide or Laerakond are the most likely IMHO. Laerakond really isn't that big compared to Faerun. Seriously it was covered in 17 pages in the FRCG in 4e. Plenty of room left for 7 species.

So my top guesses are:

1. Species of Faerun
2. Unapproachable East
3. Old Empires
4. Laerakond
5. Underdark

I mean, it isn't in the Forgotten Realms books, this is a swperate more niche supplement, similar to the vampire urban fantasy supplement and gonzo time travel campaign, both niche topics. Broad details of what's in Realmspace is perfect for this exact sort of supplement.

Both Astarion's Book of Hungers and Fall of Netheril are clearly tangentially related to things that were touched on in BG3, and WotC seem keen to milk the game's popularity for all it's worth, so with that in mind, a few possibilities:

Gale's Guide to Working the Weave: New spells, and player-facing mechanics for making your own spells and magic items.
Karlach's Blood War Field Manual: An overview of the Blood War, the factions and main battlegrounds involved, etc. A few ways to work it into a campagin. Possibly new fiend statblocks.
Lae'zel's Atlas of Realmspace: An atlas/gazetteer giving an overview of the celestial bodies beyond Toril.
Shadowheart's Apocrypha: An overview of the various deities of the realms, their Chosen and schemes (i.e. plothooks). Statblocks for some of the more prominent Chosen.
Wyll's Primer on Pacts: A guide for GMs on creating pacts for the various Warlock patrons and how to work them into a campaign, as well as minor deals and bargains to tempt non-warlocks.
Minthara's Underdark Digest: An overview of the Underdark, its domains and ecology.
