Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

Not sure I can be bothered to read all 42 pages of comments before saying anything myself. I got through the first five. My Dad and I enjoyed it, though it took a minute to get him to watch it.

I have read all about what version of Supergirl they are doing before and I am cool, super cool, with that. As far as the issue of whether she was holding back from Clark on what Kryptonians were like... I have seen speculation that maybe the message was altered by Brainiac, but I think that would alter the significance of Superman healing to videos of growing up with the Kents too much. I have also seen Krypton, and understand that whole thing about Clark is different even for a Kryptonian because he is the first one conceived and carried naturally in centuries. I wonder whether the direction they will take is that that uniqueness warped Jor and Lara's perspective. Or, perhaps more likely, their wildly different outlook someone led to them conceiving naturally. Maybe Zor and Allura will stay true to the traditional ethos of the House of El, and maybe they too were unaware of Jor and Lara's true intentions. After all, for them, their daughter, being a "normal Kryptonian" likely has no prospects of having a hybrid human family. Her future lies only in how she lives her life, not in her reproducing Kryptonian society.
I don't think we need to assign any monolithic traits to Kryptonian culture as a whole based on this message. Even back in the Christopher Reeve Superman there were Kryptonians who took a more virtuous outlook, others (like Zod) who would've been right at home with the whole "rule Earth as a god" thing, and plenty more somewhere in the middle neither particularly good or bad.

Ultimately we saw one couple's perspective of the "true" Krypton in this movie, and may see a different one in any forthcoming Supergirl movie.

Just got done watching it and it was good.

It was way more idealistic than either the last few movies or the mainline comics have been. I can see why folks prefer this version over others.

It will be interesting to see how Gunn tackles Batman, since The Batman isn't part of Gun's vision for the DCU.

It was fine. One thing I dont get about DC movies is all the seemingly pointless CGI fights. Every movie seems to have a lot of them that dont really matter. I guess it sort of establishes "this is my job I do it all the time" but I feel these scenes either run up the run time, or eat up time that would make a better story through exposition.

Super Party Girl was an odd choice. Is the character like that in the comics?

This has been discussed a lot in this thread. That version of the character is based on a major iconic Supergirl series called Woman of Tomorrow. If you scroll back you’ll find plenty of discussion about it.

Not sure which ones didn't matter in this one. The Hammer of Barovia fight establishes the stakes, showing Lex's duplicity and that he already has access to at least one combatant that can outclass Superman.

The kaiju fight introduces the Justice Gang and shows the difference between their approach and Superman's, while establishing that this is a comic-book version of the setting in which this sort of thing is a near-routine occurrence.

The beach fight establishes Mr Teriffic's superhero credentials.

The escape from the pocket universe shows that Superman still isn't up to full strength while doing some set-up for the final battle.

And that final battle brings everything together to resolve Lex's grudge match with Superman.

Did I leave any out?

I would hate to be an insurance adjuster in Metropolis.

The Justice Gang vs the invading army, and their fight with the interdimensional imp.

But I agree with you that each fight serves a purpose in the film.
The imp fight might as well have been a TV playing in the background, but it adds colour. The final battle against the invading army was the resolution to that issue, that Lex presented to Superman ("Who do you save?").

Which was a good start!

Meh. It establishes the justice gang as a bunch of jerks. Not bad though as you can see why metahumans in the DC verse need Superman as their moral compass. I was hoping the distraction would be something cooler and more interesting. Though, im starting to understand these big CGI (I dont even want to call them fights more like inconveniences) scenes are just how DC is and maybe thats not to my taste.
The beach fight establishes Mr Teriffic's superhero credentials.
Redundant as we just saw him establish that with CGI kaiju speed bump. What are his superhero abilities anyways? Good with computers? Drone operator? Nanobots?
The escape from the pocket universe shows that Superman still isn't up to full strength while doing some set-up for the final battle.
Lots of purple and pink stuff... It was fine for a struggle and escape scene it just looked so cartoon-ish

Lantern and hawk girl saving whateversville was just a predictable walk in the park. Barely an inconvenience as they say in pitch meetings. Sup and Crypto fighting sup clone was pretty good though.

Probably, these DC movies have tons of these scenes.

I think largely they move right into ensemble units in DC films and spare the origin story (which conceptually im ok with) but you are often left with a lot of questions about these folks. Black Adam had these problems too. Im sure folks tired of hearing about Marvel but they just seem to do this stuff better and I was hoping Gunn would bring some of that to DC. I will say his Superman was good in that it didnt have plot holes or was ultra dreary it just felt like a slightly above average run of the DC mill at the end of the day. So, for the films sake its probably better than my opinion says, I just had high expectations that the Gunn run would breath some life into these DC films.

For me, I've seen too many duplicates of Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Star Trek and James Bond to care, be engaged or be marvelled anymore. These shows are not for me, they are for the new 12 to 25 years old generation.
