It's kind of like the whole Hunter's Mark, Divine smite, Conjure Volley problem. You have to create low level spells that scale and Power without up casting or have them within a spell list so full casters can never get access to them.

Hunters Mark is a terrible spell and anyone can get it through a Feat (although anyone who wanted something like this would probably pick Hex instead).

Conjure volley is ok, but it is pretty much just a Force-damage upcast Fireball.

Divine Smite is the only one of those that a caster-Gish might really want over something they can gain anyway.

I like hunters mark just not on a ranger.

Hex is better.

I mean, unless you want to claim that every class that fights other than Fighter is really a Fighter who works by magic
Yes, I would say that. And a fighter who fights with magic is the same as a fighter that doesn’t use magic, aside from fluff that is easily changed. Elric fights with magic, but the magic enhances his otherwise poor strength. So it can be built into his stats.

I prefer the four class model: fighter, mage, priest, expert. Or three, combining mage and priest. That’s all that is needed. Everything else can be done with subclasses and refluffing.

Let's remember the 5e philosophy is each class has to offer options for subclasses and each subclass has to show its own identity or brand power. If you are reading a D&D story and you can't notice each subclass is after the charater fought a couple of encounters then it is a "boring" subclass.

* I like the idea of a stealth+arcane class style ninja although we would need some name like "practicioner" and enough background to explain the possible subclasses. Is their origin any secret society? Maybe we could invent the name "venefactor" (with V) from the latin "veneficus" (poison-maker or warlock) because it makes a word-game with "benefactor". It would be good name for a magic+stealth class linked to "no-clean activities".

* The witcher could be a good concept for a martial+magic class but we will need other name to avoid copyright troubles.

* I would rather a higher number of classes because I want to feel my PC is not like the rest created by others, some thing like members of certain urban tribe would rather to wear a different fashion style. Could you imagine anybody telling superheroe comics don't need new characters? New settings by 3PPs appear in Kickstarter. Do we say stop because we have enough?

Maybe I'm a bit thick here, but, isn't arcane gish an Artificer? I mean, they've got the spells, powers and extra attack. In what way isn't an artificer an arcane gish?

More like people don’t know what to do with them. It’s like “omg this class is so underpowered, but omg repeating crossbows with infinite ammo are too overpowered and I’m not going to allow them”.
