I love The Black Hole and think it’d be good for a remake, especially if they lean into the horror aspect a bit more. That movie shook me up when I saw it as a kid!
I remember having the choice of Star Trek and Black Hole in the theater when they came out and we saw Black Hole. Hadn't seen it again until we rewatched it last year. I had absolutely no memory at all of the hellscape part!

I saw bith 2001 and The Black Hole as a child on Capacitance Electronic Disc releases that my dad had collected. No way I could forget the hellscape as long as I live, lol.

If someone hasn't seen it yet ... TBH the film started deceptively as a kid's film, except was mild horror. What was happening to the crew was as bad as anything else.
It was so obvious (to me, later) that someone from Disney said "We're Disney for god's sake - we need to make this kid-friendly, so send in some cute robots and have laser gun fights...haven't you seen Star Wars??"

Cocaine is a hell of a drug, though that was a lot of 60's-70's kid's shows, they kind of make fun of it in the Simpsons with Homer in the chair, it's tripping like the ending of 2001. No wonder straight edge was a thing in the 80's.
