Eh it wasn’t casuals that killed 4e, it was dedicated players that were really angry about changes.

And if the casuals did switch they would be the same as the 1E hold outs in 3.0.

Their opinion wouldn't matter.

Lose the casuals youre screwed. This applies to movies, TV shows, video games, live service games, pvp games.

They exist to milk for money and to get farmed in PvP games.

Only if your product has to be made to appeal to the widest audience, and maximum profit is your top priority.
 


Again: the perfect form of D&D already exists and it's in the Rules Cyclopedia. D&D never needed to change. If only all these D&D players who learned to play wrong could be retrained...

Tongue thoroughly in cheek
The Rules Cyclopedia was pretty great. My favorite version of a D&D-like game is essentially an iteration on it and it's close cousins. That being said, 5e is a great base for a D&D-like game too, and easier to find players for, so it's an excellent alternative.
