I wasn't sure if I was coming back or not. I still haven't decided. I did want to share this. I'm going through something, currently my right leg is weakened. I have trouble walking and standing. It started a few weeks ago as back pain and an ache in my right leg. I've had both before but not at the same time. Walking was unbelievably painful. I eventually had enough and went to the ER. They said I had spinal stenosis and sciatica. They recommended and I made an appointment with a specialist. They said I might need surgery. The surgeon will be able to tell. I've fallen more than once. My left leg is really bruised after a fall getting in the shower. Much of the pain has decreased or gone but the weakness is still persistent. I'm too young for this; falling in the shower and such. It's scary. My appointment is next Monday. I hope they can help.
Damn! If they think they can help you, find a way to make it work. My Mom will be 80 in a few months, and that’s what really makes her seem old.

My mom is 76 and getting around better than her 50 year old son right now. I have a walker in my room and a shower bench in my shower. She doesn't need these things. I don't use the walker except for balance when I get up out of bed. I did use it to get around a couple of days.

If surgery ends up being the best option, I'll take it. I can't live like this.

I'm glad I have my mom here with me. She can't help me when I fall, and I did again tonight. She did help clear out a chair for me to use to get up. I had let a bunch of stuff pile up on the chair. It sits lower than my bed. I climbed up into the chair and was able to get up from there. I'm not sure what happened. I lost balance and fell backwards. Last time that happened I fell on the bed. Why couldn't my bed follow me around to break my fall all the time? 😝 Luckily no serious harm was caused.

My mom suggested calling the fire department. She said they could help get me up. I've started keeping my phone close. I had to call her. If I couldn't think of a way to get up or have her here to help I would probably have to call the fire department. I have no one else I can count on close by. I just had a bright idea. I looked up and saved the closest fire station's number.

We’re very close to getting my Mom an Apple Watch to wear around the house. Lots of emergency safety features on those, including an automatic call to emergency services if the wearer falls and doesn’t respond to the watch’s alerts.

Short of that, I’m trying to find a lanyard-style phone mini-bag on Etsy to carry her phone with her at the house. (She normally does not carry her phone with her at home.)

Because she does have the occasional fall. And although she seems to handle those like a ninja- she’s only had a few serious falls, and most of those a decade+ ago- she DID have one in the yard one day that could have been MUCH worse.

She had gone out to check on our dogs, and she lost her balance at the edge of the patio, bouncing off of a large ceramic flowerpot as she fell. I was in the kitchen doing dishes, no more than 25’ from her. She called out for help.

But because of the intervening walls, the running water, the TV, etc., I heard nothing.

Fortunately, our neighbor on that side was doing yard work, and heard her weak pleas. He helped her get up and back inside. (Luckily, the dogs let him in the yard.)

Have you looked into Life Alert? It's an option also. My mom has spells where she falls on occasion. Luckily she hasn't had too many. My aunt was in a different hospital when I went to the ER because she fell down the stairs at her home. She broke her arm and a few vertebra, I was told.

I started having the pain that eventually lead to the weakness in my leg before my vacation from ENW. I'd say since the weakness starts I've had one good fall a week. I almost had one at work last night, and a couple in the parking lot. I managed to recover before falling.

I had to cut back to one route. The other route had too many stops where I had to get out and walk. One was multiple floors of an apartment building. That route pays better. I'm making less than half what I was making before, which wasn't much. Another thing I'm grateful for my mom being here. I had been paying all the bills. For now I need some help. If this is long term, I'm thinking of trying for disability. I can still work part-time while on disability. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.

I'm trying to stay optimistic.
This is just temporary. The other stuff seems to have improved. The weakness was one of the last issues to manifest. There is one other problem that's too embarrassing too talk about. I'll say things are not "moving" like they should. I'd like to blame the pain meds, but I've read spinal stenosis can affect that stuff too.

I'm sorry guys. I'm sure this is not a fun topic to talk about. It's helping me, though. I've needed someone to talk to. I've had this pain in my back before. It lasted much longer this time. It also had other things happen that are related. This time it's scaring me. While I can hope it's all temporary, I need to prepare myself for if it's long term or even permanent.

A game I backed on Kickstarter has provided tracking information for the containers headed for the US. It's detailed but not as interesting as the one they provided for the shipment to Germany.
You can tap on the different vessels to see what they are. Cargo ships, fishing boats, pleasure vessels, military. It's wild. Zoom out to get the whole picture or zoom in to find more stuff like ports.

@Aeson

We have looked at Life Alert, and it’s a good service that costs less than a Watch. But Mom’s not a fan. The shallow reason is that their gear doesn’t look good, and wouldn’t work well with her carefully cultivated aesthetics.

But with the extra $$$ for the Apple Watch, you get a LOT more functionality, both as a communication device AND as emergency gear.

Carefully cultivated aesthetic. lol
I bet she's never set foot in a thrift store. 😁

I'd probably go with the watch too if I could.
