Today I learned +

Pictures on ENWorld can be given alt-text.

If you are editing a post with a picture, click on the picture and a tool box will appear. Click on the "i" (the third icon moving from left to right), and it will let you add the alt text. (Getting back to edit it once you have put it in is awkward on my browser though... clicking on the "i" again jumps to the bottom of the page.)

An image full of text explaining how alt text provides context for humans. It helps people with low or impaired vision impaired and those with different learning abilities interact with content. It enables screen readers to read information about on-page images. And it can provide context when images are unable to load due to connectivity issues or device settings.

TIL That Gary Kildall (Of Computer Chronicles, CPM, and GEOS fame, and "could've been Bill Gates but took a leisure flight instead" infamy) wrote the instruction set simulator for the Intel 8008 and 8080 microprocessors.

While at the Dublinia in Dublin, Ireland, I learned that "Beyond the pale" as an idiom is based on Anglo-Irish history where "the Pale" was the limits of the English controlled areas. Beyond it were the free Irish, who refused control of the Crown. It was therefore considered a wild and dangerous place.

I need to know more.

Today I learned that Geronimo, Apache war leader and last major Native American leader to surrender to the US government, later attended a world fair as a living exhibit. At the fair he got to ride a Ferris wheel and noted that it made the people below look as small as ants.

It's unbelievable, that story gets sadder as it goes on. The horrors we visit on each other.

TIL spell casting in Xcrawl Classics RPG can be very hazardous to your character's health. Your character literally risk life and limb when they cast spells. This book is a fun read but I don't know if I want to play it. LOL
