Quick update as to what is happening with God Rules: Player's Guide.

Currently I am working on finishing Chapter 6 which a few months ago was planned to be 50 pages but is now 140 pages. That unforeseen expansion and the logistical problems (now solved) of trying to arrange all the Epic and Divine Boons by Tiers (10 tiers in total) have caused this brief delay. Chapter 6 should have been finished by the end of September but these issues have set me back around 2 months.

The current Plan going forward is:
1. December release a 420 page Six chapter version of the book about a week before Christmas (so Backers have something in December and I can gauge feedback).
2. January release a 480 page Seven chapter version of the book...to me this will be the Physical version of the book.
3. March release Chapter 8 (Artifacts) content (approx. 80-90 pages) free to Backers.

Personally I don't want the Physical release to be something beyond 500 pages. Its just too unwieldy a physical object. Obviously the size does not impact the pdf though.

Any thoughts on this? Is the above the best course of action?
The general timeline sounds good, though I would prefer the physical book contain all chapters. If I am getting a physical book, I want it to be all in. Maybe that is just me.

I think maybe you should ask the question via KS update. You might even be able to do a poll.

Me too buddy.

But do you not agree 570-600 pages is too big for a physical book? I think even 480 pages is pushing it.

I'll look into how to do a poll.

I mentioned to one of the Backers in the comments section of the Kickstarter that I could break off the Artifacts chapter and make it a book in its own right, free for current Backers.

Option 1: 480 page book in January + 96 page book around March.

Option 2: 570 page book around March.

IDK. I little RPG core book Research:
PF2 Core Ruleboon: 578 pages
ZWEIHANDER RPG, Revised Core Rulebook: 672 pages
Talislanta 4e: 502 pages
Against the Darkmaster: 563 pages

Seems like your in an OK range.

That seems doable as well.

I feel like there a problem with the balance of the pages for the book

140 / 480 Pages = 29 % of the book ( Divine + Epic Boon ) that almost 30 % that too much Epic Boon are not the most important thing when you play its a bonus after max level, I think just cutting in half the boon content and putting back the Artifacts make more sense

70 / 480 Pages = 14.5 % of the book ( Divine + Epic Boon ) & 70 / 480 Pages = 14.5 % of the book ( Artifacts )

For the 570 pages part that very big, the biggest 3rd party D&D 5e book I have are 450-480 pages of course im sure there exist bigger but its very rare, the book of Kobold Press ( probably the most famous 3rd party D&D 5e book maker ) they dont really do anything above 450 pages, of course if you consider every single RPG book there was like in the previous message books of 500+ pages but its not common, for example Pathfinder 1e and 2e aside from the Core Rulebook of both none of their dozens of books are above 500 pages and only a few ( less than 5 for now ) are above 400 pages on this its not really a yes or no I would prefer 480 pages but I dont mind 570 pages.

Also English is not my first languange so maybe I have the wrong information of the number of pages for the boon or for the book its difficult sometimes to understand clearly.

Maybe I am over-reacting and the book will seem fine in my hands. Of course I never planned for it to be 570 pages (or whatever it ends up). Plus I would have had the 400 or so page version done by December so the extra pages are an annoying delay for both Backers and me (since I want to get started on the next project as soon as possible).

You could well be right Kevenpaladin, lets look at the current breakdown:

Opening stuff (Contents, Credits, Intro, How to, Quick Start etc.) = 21 pages.
Chapter 1 Epic = 24 pages
Chapter 2 Beyond (What happens after Level 20, New Races, Ability Scores over 30, etc.) = 42 pages.
Chapter 3 Immortality (What is Immortality, Methods of Gaining Divine Power, Divine Realms, Divine Laws, Creating Pantheons, etc.) = 56 pages
Chapter 4 Divinity (Divine Ranks, Divinity Templates, Higher Dimensional Beings etc.) = 48 pages
Chapter 5 Purviews (self explanatory) = 62 pages
Chapter 6 Powers (Divine Boons) = 140 pages
Chapter 7 Magic (epic spells and other stuff) = 54 pages
Chapter 8 Artifacts (self explanatory) = 60 pages but likely 90 when I add the Dimensional Forging)
Appendices (The Omniverse, New Planes, NPCs, glossary, Index) = 47 pages

So 21 + 24 + 42 + 56 + 48 + 62 + 140 + 54 + 90 + 47 = 584 pages

140 / 480 Pages = 29 % of the book ( Divine + Epic Boon ) that almost 30 % that too much Epic Boon are not the most important thing when you play its a bonus after max level, I think just cutting in half the boon content and putting back the Artifacts make more sense.

Well just to clarify, the Epic Boons are only about 10% of the total Boons in the Powers chapter.

If I have 50-60 features and about 6-10 Boons per feature then each feature (Time Manipulation, Crystalline Forms, Regeneration, Force Fields, Creation, etc.) takes up 2 pages. The average boon takes up 17 lines of text which means 3 per column, 6 per page, add in brief intro, a table and that's another column. If there is art (not on every Boon double page spread but a good few) then that is the double page filled.

So the question is what to cut, I don't think people necessarily need 400 Boons, but I am not sure what to leave out. I don't want to have things simply be a sterile number...You gain Regeneration 40 at Tier 2 and Regeneration 600 at Tier 5 and Regeneration 200,000 at Tier 10 (or whatever it is). I'm trying to answer what does [insert power] look like at Tier 5 or Tier 10. I'm trying to make each Boon interesting and exciting. So yes you might get a Passive benefit, but there will also be a Reactive benefit and Lore and some opening Flavour text.

I'll have a 2 page Preview of one of the Chapter 6 Features tomorrow in the next Update.

I agree, I think 320 pages is the perfect size for an RPG Book. 480 is something more akin to a Campaign setting book (in my eyes).

I'd rather now the Book was two 300-page books - though off the top of my head not sure I could split it evenly (especially given the size of the Powers/Boons chapter).

Also English is not my first languange so maybe I have the wrong information of the number of pages for the boon or for the book its difficult sometimes to understand clearly.

I think you have it right. Either way no worries my friend. I appreciate the comment and interest. Thank you.
